Dimensions of a desired two-dimensional, multi-resolution image are determined, and a plurality of regions is allocated, each allocated region having a respective resolution. An expansion matrix is defined to map the resolution of each allocated region to the native resolution, and a multi-resolution image of the scene is constructed using the compressive sense measurements, the compressive sensing matrix, and the defined expansion matrices.
