Based on the hardware capability and the policy code, the hybrid virtual load balancer may determine whether to offload load balancing of the data packet to the switch or process the data packet in software on the hybrid virtual load balancer. If the load balancing is to be offloaded, the hybrid virtual load balancer may send programming instructions to an SDN controller coupled to the switch.
