Legal claims defining the scope of protection, as filed with the USPTO.
1. A server operating as a web service for receiving captured transaction data including image data and characteristic data from a plurality of mobile devices over a communications network as machine-to-machine interaction involving the server and the plurality of mobile devices, the server comprising: a receipt module to receive from a mobile device of the plurality of mobile devices the captured transaction data as originating from the mobile device and having the characteristic data associated with the image data for characterizing the mobile device as a mobile device type rather than a fixed location device type, the image data having geographical coordinates associated therewith that identify a physical location of the mobile device pertaining to the image data, the captured transaction data comprising data derived from a digital image of a paper financial document, the paper financial document imaged by the mobile device thereby creating the digital image; a processing module to process the received captured transaction data to validate the physical location of the mobile device; and a storage module to store processed transaction data representative of the paper financial document such that the mobile device type is stored with the processed transaction data for said captured transaction data originating from the mobile device; wherein the processing module is configured to subsequently process the processed transaction data differently based on whether the mobile device is the mobile device type assigned to a first node of a hierarchy rather than the fixed location device type assigned to a second different node of the hierarchy.
2. The server of claim 1 wherein the processing module validates the physical location of the mobile device with a known business location.
3. The server of claim 1 wherein the processing module logically separates the captured transaction data by physical location.
4. The server of claim 1 further comprising: an authentication module that assigns the mobile device to a node in a hierarchical access control system based on the physical location of the mobile device, wherein the node defines the access and functionality of the mobile device.
5. The server of claim 1 , wherein the processing module processes the received captured transaction data originating from the mobile device by selecting image processing functionality of the server dependent on the determined device type, the image processing functionality including image quality processing differences for the received captured transaction data based on the determined device type.
6. The server of claim 1 further comprising a communication module to send a status of the processed transaction data to the mobile device.
7. The server of claim 6 wherein the status is any one of a status of a transaction related to the paper financial document and a status of storage of the processed transaction data.
8. The server of claim 1 , wherein the mobile device has a single sign on information irrespective of the device type registered with the first node or the different second node of the hierarchy.
9. The server of claim 1 , wherein the receipt module is a component of the processing module and is configured to receive said captured transaction data only from the mobile device type based on the characteristic data being associated with said image data when received.
10. The server of claim 9 , wherein the receipt module is a web service exposed only to the plurality of mobile devices of the device type for facilitating upload of corresponding said captured transaction data to the server based on the characteristic data being associated with said image data when received.
11. The server of claim 9 further comprising a plurality of image processing functions configured for the processing module as a scanner emulator module for modifying an image component of said captured transaction data to emulate a defined scanner format, based on recognition of the characteristic data associated with said image data.
12. The server of claim 11 , wherein an imager coupled to the mobile device of the mobile device type is a camera that can be positioned in an arbitrary user selected orientation with respect to the paper financial document of said captured transaction data.
13. The server of claim 12 , wherein the mobile device type includes mobile devices that have a variable geographic entry point to the network based on proximity to the nearest network entry point to the mobile device.
14. A method for receiving captured transaction data including image data and characteristic data from a plurality of mobile devices over a communications network as machine-to-machine interaction involving the server and the plurality of mobile devices, the server comprising: a receipt module to receive from a mobile device of the plurality of mobile devices the captured transaction data as originating from the mobile device and having the characteristic data associated with the image data for characterizing the mobile device as a mobile device type rather than a fixed location device type, the image data having geographical coordinates associated therewith that identify a physical location of the mobile device pertaining to the image data, the captured transaction data comprising data derived from a digital image of a paper financial document, the paper financial document imaged by the mobile device thereby creating the digital image; a processing module to process the received captured transaction data to validate the physical location of the mobile device; and a storage module to store processed transaction data representative of the paper financial document such that the mobile device type is stored with the processed transaction data for said captured transaction data originating from the mobile device; wherein the processing module is configured to subsequently process the processed transaction data differently based on whether the mobile device is the mobile device type assigned to a first node of a hierarchy rather than the fixed location device type assigned to a second different node of the hierarchy.
