1

1. A method comprising: receiving, at a connection node, an attachment request from a user equipment (UE) device; receiving, at the connection node and from an aggregation layer device, an Internet Protocol (IP) address assigned to the UE device, wherein the aggregation layer device is associated with a plurality of connection nodes, wherein the plurality of connection nodes includes the connection node, wherein the aggregation layer device is associated with a plurality of IP addresses for assigning to UE devices connected to the plurality of connection nodes, and wherein the aggregation layer device determines routes to a backhaul network coupled to the aggregation layer device based on IP addresses assigned to the UE devices connected to the plurality of connection nodes; and notifying, by the connection node, the UE device regarding the assigned IP address.

2

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: storing, at the connection node, the assigned IP address in a table that includes IP addresses assigned to UE devices connected to the connection node.

3

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the aggregation layer device is one of a plurality of aggregation layer devices, and wherein each aggregation layer device, of the plurality of aggregation layer devices, is associated with a pool of IP addresses to assign to UEs connected to connection nodes associated with each aggregation layer device.

4

4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: receiving, at the connection node and from the UE device, data addressed to a second UE device; determining, by the connection node, whether second UE device is connected to the connection node; forwarding, by the connection node, the data directly to the second UE device when the second UE device is connected to the connection node; and forwarding, by the connection node, the data to the aggregation layer device when the second UE device is not connected to the connection node.

5

5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: forwarding, by the connection node, policy information to the aggregation layer device in response to receiving the attachment request from the UE device, wherein the policy information relates to an exchange of data among UE devices connected to the connection node.

6

6. The method of claim 5 , wherein the policy information includes billing information associated with the exchange of data among UE devices connected to the connection node.

7

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the aggregation layer device includes an IP server for receiving requests for IP addresses and responding with particular IP addresses from the plurality of IP addresses.

8

8. A system comprising: a connection node configured to: receive an attachment request from a user equipment (UE); and an aggregation layer device, wherein the aggregation layer device is associated with a plurality of connection nodes, wherein the plurality of connection nodes includes the connection node, wherein the aggregation layer device is associated with a plurality of IP addresses for assigning to UEs connected to the plurality of connection nodes, wherein the aggregation layer device determines routes to a backhaul network coupled to the aggregation layer device based on IP addresses assigned to the UEs connected to the plurality of connection nodes, and wherein the aggregation layer device is configured to: receive a request to assign an IP address to the UE, assign an IP address, from the plurality of IP addresses, to the UE, and send, to the connection node, the assigned IP address; and wherein the connection node is configured to: receive the assigned IP address from the aggregation layer device, and notify the UE regarding the assigned IP address.

9

9. The system of claim 8 , wherein the connection node is further configured to: store the assigned IP address in a table that includes IP addresses assigned to UEs connected to the connection node.

10

10. The system of claim 8 , wherein the aggregation layer device is one of a plurality of aggregation layer devices, and wherein each aggregation layer device, of the plurality of aggregation layer devices, is associated with a pool of IP address to assign to UEs connected to connection nodes associated with each aggregation layer device.

11

11. The system of claim 8 , wherein the connection node is further configured to: receive, from the UE, data addressed to a second UE; determine whether the second UE is connected to the connection node; forward the data directly to the second UE when the second UE is connected to the connection node; and forward the data to the aggregation layer device when the second UE is not connected to the connection node.

12

12. The system of claim 8 , wherein the connection node is further configured to: forward policy information to the aggregation layer device in response to receiving the attachment request from the UE, wherein the policy information relates to an exchange of data among UEs connected to the connection node.

13

13. The system of claim 12 , wherein the policy information includes billing information associated with the exchange of data among UEs connected to the connection node.

14

14. The system of claim 8 , wherein the aggregation layer device includes an IP server, and wherein the IP server is configured to: receive requests for IP addresses, and respond with particular IP addresses from the plurality of IP addresses.

15

15. A non-transitory computer readable medium storing instructions, the instructions comprising: one or more instructions that, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to: receive an attachment request from a user equipment (UE); receive, from an aggregation layer device, an Internet Protocol (IP) address assigned to the UE, wherein the aggregation layer device is associated with a plurality of connection nodes, wherein the plurality of connection nodes includes the connection node, wherein the aggregation layer device is associated with a plurality of IP addresses for assigning to UEs connected to the plurality of connection nodes, and wherein the aggregation layer device determines routes to a backhaul network coupled to the aggregation layer device based on IP addresses assigned to the UEs connected to the plurality of connection nodes; and notify UE regarding the assigned IP address.

16

16. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the instructions further comprise: one or more instructions that cause the processor to store the assigned IP address in a table that includes IP addresses assigned to UEs connected to the connection node.

17

17. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the aggregation layer device is one of a plurality of aggregation layer devices, and wherein each aggregation layer device, of the plurality of aggregation layer devices, is associated with a pool of IP address to assign to UEs connected to connection nodes associated with each aggregation layer device.

18

18. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the instructions further comprise: one or more instructions that cause the processor to: receive, from the UE, data addressed to a second UE; determine whether the second UE is connected to the connection node; forward the data directly to the second UE when the second UE is connected to the connection node; and forward the data to the aggregation layer device when the second UE is not connected to the connection node.

19

19. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the instructions further comprise: one or more instructions that cause the processor to: forward policy information to the aggregation layer device in response to receiving the attachment request from the UE, wherein the policy information relates to an exchange of data among UEs connected to the connection node.

20

20. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 19 , wherein the policy information includes billing information associated with the exchange of data among UEs connected to the connection node.
