1. A device, comprising: a stationary camera configured to capture a photograph of a person, the camera having a field of view; a position indicator at a fixed position relative to the camera, the position indicator providing a visual indication to the person that the person is viewing the position indicator from within a range of viewing angles relative to the field of view of the camera, the position indicator comprising: a substrate having an array of visual components, a first visual component of the array of visual components having a first visual element of a first color and a second visual element of a second color; a lens panel having an array of spherical lenses, a first spherical lens of the array of spherical lenses being aligned with the first visual component to project the first color of the first visual element in a first direction and to project the second color of the second visual element in a second direction; an illumination panel between the substrate and the lens panel to illuminate the array of visual components, the illumination panel having thickness; and a light-emitting diode that emits light into the illumination panel, wherein the light propagates across the illumination panel by reflecting within the illumination panel; and wherein the first spherical lens projects the first color of the first visual element to a first person who is viewing the position indicator from within the range of viewing angles; and the first spherical lens projects the second color of the second visual element to a second person who is viewing the position indicator from outside of the range of viewing angles.

2

2. The device of claim 1 , wherein the first visual component comprises a round pattern in which the second visual element surrounds the first visual element.

3

3. The device of claim 1 , wherein the substrate comprises an opaque sheet upon which the visual components are indelibly printed.

4

4. A device, comprising: a camera having a field of view; a position indicator comprising: an array of visual components, a first visual component of the array of visual components having a first visual element and a second visual element; an illuminator that illuminates the array of visual components; multiple lenses, a first lens of the multiple lenses being aligned with the first visual component; the first lens projecting an image of the first visual element in a first direction from the position indicator; the first lens projecting an image of the second visual element in a second direction from the position indicator; wherein the first visual element forms a portion of a first composite image that is projected by the multiple lenses in the first direction, the first composite image indicating that the position indicator is being viewed from within a range of viewing angles relative to the field of view of the camera; and wherein the second visual element forms a portion of a second composite image that is projected by the multiple lenses in the second direction, the second composite image indicating that the position indicator is being viewed from outside the range of viewing angles.

5

5. The device of claim 4 , wherein: the first lens comprises a cylindrical lens having a longitudinal axis; and the first visual component comprises a rectangular pattern in which each of the first and second visual elements is a stripe that extends parallel to the longitudinal axis.

6

6. The device of claim 4 , wherein: the first lens comprises a spherical lens; and the first visual component comprises a round pattern in which the second visual element at least partially surrounds the first visual element.

7

7. The device of claim 4 , wherein the second composite image comprises a directional symbol indicating a direction to move for the first composite image to be viewed.

8

8. The device of claim 4 , wherein: the first composite image is of a first color; and the second composite image is of a second color.

9

9. The device of claim 4 , the position indicator further comprising a substrate having the visual components, the illuminator being positioned between the lenses and the substrate.

10

10. The device of claim 4 , the position indicator further comprising a substrate having the visual components, the substrate being positioned between the lenses and the illuminator.

11

11. The device of claim 4 , the illuminator comprising: a panel having opposite surfaces; and a light source that emits light into the panel, wherein the light propagates across the panel by reflecting between the opposite surfaces of the panel.

12

12. The device of claim 4 , wherein: the position indicator further comprises a transparent substrate upon which the visual components are printed; and the transparent substrate is between the illuminator and the lenses.

13

13. A device, comprising: a camera having a field of view; an array of visual components, a first visual component of the array of visual components having a first visual element and a second visual element; multiple lenses, a first lens of the multiple lenses being aligned with the first visual component; the first lens projecting the first visual element in a first direction; the first lens projecting the second visual element in a second direction; the first visual element forming a portion of a first composite image, the first composite image indicating that the position indicator is being viewed from within a range of viewing angles relative to the field of view of the camera; and the second visual element forming a portion of a second composite image, the second composite image indicating that the position indicator is being viewed from outside the range of viewing angles.

14

14. The device of claim 13 , further comprising an illuminator positioned to illuminate the array of visual components.

15

15. The device of claim 13 , wherein the second composite image comprises a directional symbol indicating a direction to move for the first composite image to be viewed.

16

16. The device of claim 13 , wherein: the first composite image is of a first color; and the second composite image is of a second color.

17

17. The device of claim 13 , further comprising an illumination panel between the lenses and the array of visual components, wherein the illumination panel emits light onto the array of visual components.

18

18. The device of claim 13 , further comprising an illuminator positioned to illuminate the array of visual components, the illuminator comprising: a panel having opposite surfaces; and a light source that emits light into the panel, wherein the light propagates across the panel by reflecting between the opposite surfaces of the panel.

19

19. The device of claim 13 , wherein: the first lens comprises a cylindrical lens having a longitudinal axis; and the first visual component comprises a rectangular pattern in which each of the first and second visual elements is a stripe that extends parallel to the longitudinal axis.

20

20. The device of claim 13 , wherein: the first lens comprises a spherical lens; and each visual component comprises a round pattern in which the second element at least partially surrounds the first element.
