Legal claims defining the scope of protection, as filed with the USPTO.
1. A method for improving functionality of systems for patient access to prescribed therapeutics, comprising: receiving a prescription claim from a pharmacy, wherein the prescription claim identifies a patient and a therapeutic; forwarding the prescription claim to a prescription benefit manager (PBM); receiving a reimbursement schedule from the PBM, wherein the reimbursement schedule sets forth a copayment amount owed by the patient for the therapeutic; determining whether the therapeutic is eligible for adherence assistance at the pharmacy; when it is determined that the therapeutic is eligible for adherence assistance, calculating an amount of assistance; and updating the reimbursement schedule to reflect the amount of assistance available to the patient; and forwarding the updated reimbursement schedule to a computing device associated with the pharmacy.
2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the prescription claim received from the pharmacy includes a patient consent to use personal data.
3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the prescription claim received from the pharmacy does not include a patient consent to use personal data, further comprising: transmitting a consent request to the pharmacy to transmit the patient consent to use the personal data when it is determined that the therapeutic is eligible for adherence assistance; when the patient consent to use the personal data is received, calculating the amount of assistance based on the personal data; and when the patient consent to use the personal data is not received, calculating the amount of assistance based on aggregated data.
4. The method of claim 3 , wherein the personal data are used to determine a percentage of Federal Poverty Level for the patient.
5. The method of claim 3 , wherein the personal data include a credit score provided by a credit bureau.
6. The method of claim 3 , wherein the personal data include geography data for the patient.
7. A system having improved functionality for improving patient access to prescribed therapeutics, comprising: a clearinghouse computing device to receive a prescription claim associated with a patient from a pharmacy computing device; a Pharmacy Benefits Manager computing device, operable to receive the prescription claim from the clearinghouse computing device and, in response, transmit a reimbursement schedule to the clearinghouse computing device, wherein the reimbursement schedule includes a copayment amount for the prescribed therapeutic based on an insurance policy of the patient; and a database, including patient-specific data, in communication with the clearinghouse computing device; wherein the prescription claim and the reimbursement schedule are structured communications; wherein the clearinghouse computing device includes an assistance analyzer, operable to compare the patient-specific data with the structured communications to determine whether the patient is eligible to receive personalized assistance for adhering to the prescribed therapeutics; wherein the assistance analyzer determines an amount of the personalized assistance based on historic adherence rates of categories of patients to which the patient belongs, wherein the patient is assigned as belonging to one or more of the categories of patients based on the patient-specific data; when the patient is eligible for the personalized assistance for adhering to the prescribed therapeutics, calculate an amount of the personalized assistance; update the reimbursement schedule to reflect the amount of the personalized assistance available to the patient for adhering to the prescribed therapeutics; and forward the updated reimbursement schedule to the pharmacy computing device.
8. The system of claim 7 , wherein a patient authorization to use the patient-specific data is received from the pharmacy computing device before comparing the patient-specific data with the structured communications.
9. The system of claim 8 , further to transmit a prompt to the pharmacy computing device to prompt the patient to provide the patient authorization.
10. The system of claim 7 , wherein the patient-specific data include geographic information regarding the patient.
11. A non-transitory computer readable medium that includes instructions which, when executed, operate to: receive a prescription claim from a pharmacy, wherein the prescription claim identifies a patient and a therapeutic; forward the prescription claim to a prescription benefit manager (PBM); receive a reimbursement schedule from the PBM, wherein the reimbursement schedule sets forth a copayment amount owed by the patient for the therapeutic; determine whether the therapeutic is eligible for adherence assistance at the pharmacy; when it is determined that the therapeutic is eligible for adherence assistance, calculate an amount of assistance; and update the reimbursement schedule to reflect the amount of assistance available to the patient; and forward the updated reimbursement schedule to a computing device associated with the pharmacy.
12. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 11 , wherein the prescription claim received from the pharmacy includes a patient consent to use personal data.
13. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 11 , wherein the prescription claim received from the pharmacy does not include a patient consent to use personal data, further to: transmit a consent request to the pharmacy to transmit the patient consent to use the personal data when it is determined that the therapeutic is eligible for adherence assistance; when the patient consent to use the personal data is received, calculate the amount of assistance based on the personal data; and when the patient consent to use the personal data is not received, calculate the amount of assistance based on aggregated data.
14. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 13 , wherein the personal data are used to determine a percentage of Federal Poverty Level for the patient.
15. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 13 , wherein the personal data include a credit score provided by a credit bureau.
16. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 13 , wherein the personal data include geography data for the patient.
17. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 11 , wherein a patient authorization to use patient-specific data is received from a pharmacy computing device before comparing the patient-specific data with structured communications that comprise the prescription claim and the reimbursement schedule.
18. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 17 , further to transmit a prompt to the pharmacy computing device to prompt the patient to provide a patient authorization.
