Apparatus and Method for Multimedia Communication

1. A method, comprising: obtaining, by a processing system including a processor of a communication device, media content; determining, by the processing system responsive to the obtaining of the media content, a designation of a recipient of the media content based on a user profile associated with a user of the communication device; transmitting, by the processing system by way of a communication network, a distribution request to a media system, wherein the distribution request includes the designation of the recipient of the media content, and wherein the distribution request includes a first distribution designation of a distribution method for the media content, the first distribution designation specifying a push distribution method, a pull distribution method or a combination thereof; and transmitting, by the processing system, the media content to the media system, wherein the media system stores the media content at a storage device of a storage network and performs reformatting of the media content according to a target format associated with the recipient and stored in the user profile, the recipient being designated in the user profile, wherein the storage device is associated with the user of the communication device and accessible over the communication network, wherein equipment of the recipient receives a notification of an availability of the media content, wherein access to the media content by the equipment of the recipient is based on the designation of the recipient, and wherein the equipment of the recipient receives the media content according to the distribution method in the first distribution designation and not according to a second distribution designation in the user profile.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the user profile is stored on the storage network.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first distribution designation has priority over the second distribution designation according to a predetermined rule.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the storage network comprises a secure user mailbox.

5. The method of claim 4 , wherein the mailbox is associated with the communication device.

6. The method of claim 4 , wherein the mailbox stores information associated with the media content, the information thereby being accessible to the communication device.

7. The method of claim 6 , wherein the information comprises a status of delivery of the media content to the equipment of the recipient, a status of access to the media content by the equipment of the recipient, or a combination thereof.

8. The method of claim 6 , wherein the information comprises a size of the media content, a format of the media content, or a combination thereof.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the media content comprises video content, and wherein the communication device comprises a mobile device.

10. A device comprising: a processing system including a processor of a mobile communication device; and a memory that stores executable instructions that, when executed by the processing system, facilitate performance of operations comprising: obtaining media content; determining, responsive to the obtaining of the media content, a designation of a recipient of the media content based on a user profile associated with a user of the mobile communication device; transmitting, by way of a communication network, a distribution request to a media system, wherein the distribution request includes the designation of the recipient of the media content, and wherein the distribution request includes a first distribution designation of a distribution method for the media content, the first distribution designation specifying a push distribution method, a pull distribution method or a combination thereof; and transmitting the media content to the media system, wherein the media system stores the media content at a storage device of a storage network and performs reformatting of the media content according to a target format associated with the recipient and stored in the user profile, the recipient being designated in the user profile, wherein the storage device is associated with the user of the mobile communication device and accessible over the communication network, wherein equipment of the recipient receives a notification of an availability of the media content, and wherein the equipment of the recipient receives the media content according to the distribution method in the first distribution designation and not according to a second distribution designation in the user profile.

11. The device of claim 10 , wherein access to the media content by the equipment of the recipient is based on the designation of the recipient.

12. The device of claim 10 , wherein the user profile is stored on the storage network.

13. The device of claim 10 , wherein the storage network comprises a secure user mailbox.

14. The device of claim 13 , wherein the mailbox stores information associated with the media content, the information thereby being accessible to the mobile communication device.

15. The device of claim 14 , wherein the information comprises a status of delivery of the media content to the equipment of the recipient, a status of access to the media content by the equipment of the recipient, or a combination thereof.

16. A non-transitory machine-readable medium comprising executable instructions that, when executed by a processing system including a processor of a communication device, facilitate performance of operations comprising: obtaining media content; determining, responsive to the obtaining of the media content, a designation of a recipient of the media content based on a user profile associated with a user of the communication device; transmitting, by way of a communication network, a distribution request to a media system, wherein the distribution request includes the designation of the recipient of the media content, and wherein the distribution request includes a first distribution designation of a distribution method for the media content, the first distribution designation specifying a push distribution method, a pull distribution method or a combination thereof; and transmitting the media content to the media system, wherein the media system stores the media content at a storage device of a storage network and performs reformatting of the media content according to a target format associated with the recipient and stored in the user profile, the recipient being designated in the user profile, wherein the storage device is associated with the user of the communication device and accessible over the communication network, wherein equipment of the recipient receives a notification of an availability of the media content, and wherein the equipment of the recipient receives the media content according to the distribution method in the first distribution designation and not according to a second distribution designation in the user profile.

17. The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 16 , wherein the storage network comprises a secure user mailbox.

18. The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 17 , wherein the mailbox stores information associated with the media content, the information thereby being accessible to the communication device.

19. The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 18 , wherein the information comprises a status of delivery of the media content to the equipment of the recipient, a status of access to the media content by the equipment of the recipient, or a combination thereof.

20. The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 18 , wherein the information comprises a size of the media content, a format of the media content, or a combination thereof.
