Legal claims defining the scope of protection, as filed with the USPTO.
2. The patient bed of claim 1, wherein the turn assist panel is pivotably coupled to the head section.
3. The patient bed of claim 2, wherein the turn assist panel pivots about an axis that extends in a longitudinal direction of the head section.
4. The patient bed of claim 1, wherein the cam wipes against the undersurface to raise the turn assist panel.
5. The patient bed of claim 1, wherein the driver includes a shaft coupled to the cam and rotatable about a shaft axis to rotate the cam.
6. The patient bed of claim 1, wherein the turn assist panel rests upon the head section when in a lowered position.
7. The patient bed of claim 1, wherein the turn assist panel is situated off-center of the head section.
8. The patient bed of claim 1, wherein the turn assist panel is rectangular in shape.
9. The patient bed of claim 1, wherein the turn assist panel comprises a right turn assist panel that, when raised, turns the patient towards a left side of the patient, and further comprising a left turn assist panel coupled to the head section, the left turn assist panel being raiseable to turn the patient towards a right side of the patient.
10. The patient bed of claim 9, wherein right turn assist panel and the left turn assist panel are each cam driven to move from a lowered position to a raised position.
11. The patient bed of claim 10, wherein the right turn assist panel pivots about a right panel axis when moving between its raised and lowered positions and wherein the left turn assist panel pivots about a left panel axis when moving between its raised and lowered positions.
14. The patient bed of claim 13, wherein the shaft is rotated less than one full revolution when moving the turn assist panel between a lowered position and a raised position.
16. The patient bed of claim 15, wherein rotation of the right cam in a first direction pivots the right turn assist panel about the right panel axis from its lowered position to its raised position and wherein rotation of the left cam in a second direction, opposite the first direction, pivots the left turn assist panel about the left panel axis from its lowered position to its raised position.
17. The patient bed of claim 15, wherein the right opening and the left opening are each rectangular in shape, the right cam is located at central region of the right opening, and the left cam is located at a central region of the left opening.
18. The patient bed of claim 15, further comprising a first driver coupled to the right cam and a second driver coupled to the left cam, the first driver being operable to rotate the right cam, and the second driver being operable to rotate the left cam.
19. The patient bed of claim 18, wherein the right cam wipes against the right undersurface of the right turn assist panel to raise and lower the right turn assist panel and wherein the left cam wipes against the left undersurface of the left turn assist panel to raise and lower the left turn assist panel.
20. The patient bed of claim 18, wherein the first driver comprises a first shaft coupled to the right cam and the second driver comprises a second shaft coupled to the left cam, wherein the first shaft extends parallel with the right panel axis, and wherein the second shaft extends parallel with the left panel axis.
