7. The method of claim 1, further comprising determining, by the SDN controller, the server network interface configuration information based, at least in part, on the user-assigned role associated with the physical server.

9. The method of claim 8, further comprising determining a second mapping from the one or more generic network interfaces to one or more network interfaces of the physical server.

The system of claim 11, wherein the first SDN controller and the second SDN controller are configured to operate in a federated mode after instantiation of the second SDN controller, and wherein the first SDN controller manages an underlay network defined by the IP fabric configuration and the second SDN controller manages an overlay network configured to utilize services provided by the underlay network.

15. The system of claim 14, wherein in response to reboot of the physical server, the physical server loads an introspector program configured to determine the server configuration information, wherein the first SDN controller receives the server configuration information from the introspector program.

16. The system of claim 10, wherein the SDN controller is further configured to determine the server network interface configuration information based, at least in part, on the user-assigned role associated with the physical server.

18. The system of claim 17, wherein the SDN controller is further configured to determine a second mapping from the one or more generic network interfaces to one or more network interfaces provided by the physical server.

20. The computer-readable medium of claim 19, wherein the switch port configuration information for the IP fabric switch of the one or more IP fabric switches is based, at least in part, on the user-assigned role associated with the physical server communicably coupled to the IP fabric switch.
