Legal claims defining the scope of protection, as filed with the USPTO.
2. The method of claim 1, wherein the ordering behavior parameter comprises at least one of an above value, a below value, a between value, a top of stack value, or a bottom of stack value.
4. The method of claim 3, wherein the installing the at least one software unit into the layer stack based on the ordering behavior parameter and the reference parameter only occurs if no other higher-order rules in the hierarchical rules apply to the at least one software unit.
5. The method of claim 4, wherein the at least one software unit is installed at a default position of the layer stack if one of the ordering behavior parameter or the reference parameter is invalid and no other one of the plurality of hierarchical rules applies.
6. The method of claim 1, wherein the at least one software unit comprises one or more software components for application of functionality to data in the application environment.
9. The system of claim 8, wherein the ordering behavior parameter comprises at least one of an above value, a below value, a between value, a top of stack value, or a bottom of stack value.
10. The system of claim 8, wherein the ALM further comprises a plurality of hierarchical rules for software unit placement in the layer stack, wherein the installing the at least one software unit into the layer stack based on the ordering behavior parameter and the reference parameter comprises at least one of the plurality of hierarchical rules.
11. The system of claim 10, wherein the ALM installs the at least one software unit into the layer stack based on the ordering behavior parameter and the reference parameter only if no other higher-order rules in the hierarchical rules apply to the at least one software unit.
12. The system of claim 11, wherein the ALM installs the at least one software unit at a default position of the layer stack if one of the ordering behavior parameter or the reference parameter is invalid and no other one of the plurality of hierarchical rules applies.
13. The system of claim 8, wherein the at least one software unit comprises one or more software components for application of functionality to data in the database of the application environment.
14. The system of claim 8, wherein the ALM is further operative to merge at least one software component of the at least one software unit into one or more other layers of the layer stack after installing the at least one software unit based on an installed location of the at least one software unit in the layer stack.
16. The one or more tangible processor-readable storage media of claim 15, wherein the ordering behavior parameter comprises at least one of an above value, a below value, a between value, a top of stack value, or a bottom of stack value.
18. The one or more tangible processor-readable storage media of claim 17, wherein the installing the at least one software unit into the layer stack based on the ordering behavior parameter and the reference parameter only occurs if no other higher-order rules in the hierarchical rules apply to the at least one software unit.
19. The one or more tangible processor-readable storage media of claim 18, wherein the at least one software unit is installed at a default position of the layer stack if one of the ordering behavior parameter or the reference parameter is invalid and no other one of the plurality of hierarchical rules applies.
20. The one or more tangible processor-readable storage media of claim 15, wherein the at least one software unit comprises one or more software components for application of functionality to data in the application environment.
