Legal claims defining the scope of protection, as filed with the USPTO.
1. A method, comprising: determining, based on a request to elevate a telephone call to a virtual meeting, whether a client application associated with a web service used to implement the virtual meeting is installed on a phone device connected to the telephone call; authenticating an audio-only caller using the phone device for the virtual meeting in connection with a message transmitted to the phone device, wherein the message is based on whether the client application is installed on the phone device; and connecting, based on the authentication of the audio-only caller and an interaction with the message at the phone device, the phone device to the virtual meeting via a session initiation protocol transaction between the web service and a telephony service used to implement the telephone call, wherein the connection of the phone device to the virtual meeting via the session initiation protocol transaction maintains the telephone call as an audio channel of the virtual meeting for the phone device.
2. The method of claim 1, wherein, based on a determination that the client application is installed on the phone device, authenticating the audio-only caller using the phone device for the virtual meeting in connection with the message transmitted to the phone device comprises: authenticating, by the client application, the audio-only caller using information associated with the phone device.
3. The method of claim 1, wherein, based on a determination that the client application is not installed on the phone device, authenticating the audio-only caller using the phone device for the virtual meeting in connection with the message transmitted to the phone device comprises: causing the phone device to access, via the message, a uniform resource locator that embeds a meeting identifier of the virtual meeting and a participant identifier that authenticates the audio-only caller.
4. The method of claim 1, wherein a telephone number used by the phone device for the telephone call is associated with multiple phone devices, and wherein authenticating the audio-only caller using the phone device for the virtual meeting in connection with the message transmitted to the phone device comprises: causing a querying of telephony services used to implement the telephone call for a list of device endpoints connected to the telephone call; and causing a verification of the phone device as one of the multiple phone devices using the list of device endpoints.
5. The method of claim 1, wherein authenticating the audio-only caller using the phone device for the virtual meeting in connection with the message transmitted to the phone device comprises: authenticating the audio-only caller for the virtual meeting prior to a receipt of the message at the phone device.
6. The method of claim 1, wherein, where the client application is installed on the phone device, the message is received as a push notification of the client application.
7. The method of claim 1, wherein, where the client application is not installed on the phone device, the message is received as a text message.
8. A non-transitory computer readable medium storing instructions operable to cause one or more processors to perform operations comprising: determining, based on a request to elevate a telephone call to a virtual meeting, that a client application associated with a web service used to implement the virtual meeting is installed on a phone device connected to the telephone call; authenticating an audio-only caller using the phone device for the virtual meeting in connection with a message transmitted to the phone device, wherein the message is based on the determination that the client application is installed on the phone device; and connecting, based on the authentication of the audio-only caller and an interaction with the message at the phone device, the phone device to the virtual meeting via a session initiation protocol transaction between the web service and a telephony service used to implement the telephone call, wherein the connection of the phone device to the virtual meeting via the session initiation protocol transaction maintains the telephone call as an audio channel of the virtual meeting for the phone device.
9. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 8, wherein authenticating the audio-only caller using the phone device for the virtual meeting in connection with the message transmitted to the phone device comprises: using the client application to authenticate the audio-only caller based on information associated with the phone device.
10. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 8, wherein authenticating the audio-only caller using the phone device for the virtual meeting in connection with the message transmitted to the phone device comprises: causing the phone device to access a uniform resource locator embedding at least one identifier for authenticating the audio-only caller.
11. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 8, wherein authenticating the audio-only caller using the phone device for the virtual meeting in connection with the message transmitted to the phone device comprises: causing, using a list of device endpoints connected to the telephone call, a verification of the phone device as one of multiple phone devices associated with a telephone number represented within the list of device endpoints.
12. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 8, wherein authenticating the audio-only caller using the phone device for the virtual meeting in connection with the message transmitted to the phone device comprises: authenticating the audio-only caller for the virtual meeting prior to a receipt of the message at the phone device.
13. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 8, wherein, where the client application is installed on the phone device, the message is received as a push notification of the client application, and, where the client application is not installed on the phone device, the message is received as a text message.
14. An apparatus, comprising: a memory; and a processor configured to execute instructions stored in the memory to: determine, based on a request to elevate a telephone call to a virtual meeting, that a client application associated with a web service used to implement the virtual meeting is installed on a phone device connected to the telephone call; authenticate an audio-only caller using the phone device for the virtual meeting in connection with a message transmitted to the phone device, wherein the message is based on the determination that the client application is installed on the phone device; and connect, based on the authentication of the audio-only caller and an interaction with the message at the phone device, the phone device to the virtual meeting via a session initiation protocol transaction between the web service and a telephony service used to implement the telephone call, wherein the connection of the phone device to the virtual meeting via the session initiation protocol transaction maintains the telephone call as an audio channel of the virtual meeting for the phone device.
15. The apparatus of claim 14, wherein, where the client application is installed on the phone device, the audio-only caller is authenticated by the client application using information associated with the phone device.
16. The apparatus of claim 14, wherein, where the client application is not installed on the phone device, the audio-only caller is authenticated by the phone device accessing a uniform resource locator that embeds a meeting identifier of the virtual meeting and a participant identifier that authenticates the audio-only caller.
17. The apparatus of claim 14, wherein a telephone number is used by the phone device for the telephone call is associated with multiple phone devices, and wherein the audio-only caller is authenticated based on a verification of the phone device as one of the multiple phone devices.
18. The apparatus of claim 14, wherein the audio-only caller is authenticated prior to a receipt of the message at the phone device.
19. The apparatus of claim 14, wherein maintaining the telephone call as the audio channel of the virtual meeting for the phone device prevents a gap in communication between the audio-only caller and other participants of the virtual meeting.
20. The apparatus of claim 14, wherein the audio channel of the telephone call is bound to a video channel of the audio-only caller within the virtual meeting.
