Legal claims defining the scope of protection, as filed with the USPTO.
1. A display driving method which drives a display to make a gradation display on a screen of the display depending on a length of a sustain time interval in each of N sub fields SF 1 through SF N forming one field, where the field is a time interval in which an image is displayed, n is an integer greater than one, and the sustain time interval is equal to a light emission time and determines a luminance level, said display driving method comprising: dividing one field into a first sub field group L and a second sub field group M; setting a sustain time interval of each sub field in the second sub field group M longer than a sustain time interval of each sub field in the first sub field group L, and so that the second sub field group M includes a plurality of sub fields having a longest sustain time interval; and increasing a sustain time within the second sub field group M when the luminance of the image that is displayed gradually increases, by causing a light emission to start in a predetermined sub field SF Mm having the longest sustain time interval, of the plurality of sub fields having the longest sustain time interval, and additionally causing a light emission in another sub field SF Mm+1 having the longest sustain time interval, of the plurality of sub fields having the longest sustain time interval, in a state where the light emission in the predetermined sub field SF Mm is maintained.
2. The display driving method as claim in claim 1 , wherein the sustain time intervals of each of the sub fields within the second sub field group M are approximately the same.
3. The display driving method as claimed in claim 1 , wherein each sub field within the second sub field group M, having the longest sustain time interval and making the light emission, maintains the light emission as the luminance is increased.
