1

1. A latching system, comprising: an access cover comprising a first slidable latch member; a device housing comprising a second latch member engageable with the first slidable latch member such that the access cover is configured to move in a direction substantially parallel to the device housing; and a latch assist mechanism disposed in the access cover, comprising: a lever; an arm rotatably coupled to the lever at a first joint; and a sled rotatably coupled to the arm at a second joint offset from the first joint, wherein the sled comprises a portion adapted to move in a linear direction to bias against the device housing, wherein the lever, the arm, and the sled are self-contained in a common housing.

2

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the access cover and the device housing comprise a computer component.

3

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the access cover and the device housing comprise a rack mountable component.

4

4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the lever is rotatable outwardly from the access cover.

5

5. The system of claim 1 , wherein the lever, the arm, and the sled are tool-lessly self-contained.

6

6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the latch assist mechanism has a collapsible low-profile configuration.

7

7. The system of claim 1 , comprising computing components disposed within the device housing.

8

8. The system of claim 1 , wherein the common housing is removably coupled to the access cover.

9

9. The system of claim 1 , wherein the common housing is configured to mount removably to the access cover without tools or threaded fasteners.

10

10. The system of claim 1 , wherein the portion comprises a receptacle configured to receive a pin on the device housing.

11

11. A latching system, comprising: means for slidingly coupling an access cover with a device housing; and means for leveraging the access cover relative to the device housing to facilitate movement of the access cover in a linear direction oriented along the means for slidingly coupling, wherein the means for leveraging comprise a lever movably coupled with a sled having a portion that moves in the linear direction to engage and bias against another portion of the device housing, wherein the means for leveraging is self-contained, wherein the portion comprises a receptacle configured to receive a pin on the device housing.

12

12. The system of claim 11 , wherein the means for slidingly coupling comprise first and second tool-less fasteners engageable with one another.

13

13. The system of claim 11 , comprising a housing removably coupled to the access cover, wherein the means for leveraging is self-contained in the housing.

14

14. The system of claim 13 , wherein the housing is configured to mount removably to the access cover without tools or threaded fasteners.

15

15. A latching system, comprising: a latch housing; a sled disposed in the latch housing, wherein the sled comprises a receptacle configured to receive a pin disposed on a device housing; and a lever disposed in the latch housing, wherein the lever is configured to move the sled in a first linear direction to cause the latch housing to move in a second linear direction opposite from the first linear direction as the receptacle biases against the pin.

16

16. The system of claim 15 , wherein the lever is configured to rotate an arm coupled to the sled.

17

17. The system of claim 16 , wherein the lever is configured to rotate about a first axis, the arm is coupled to the lever at a second axis offset from the first axis, and the arm is coupled to the sled at a third axis offset from the first and second axes.

18

18. The system of claim 17 , wherein the lever and the arm are configured to collapse into the latch housing over the sled.

19

19. The system of claim 15 , wherein the latch housing is configured to mount without tools or threaded fasteners.

20

20. The system of claim 15 , wherein the latch housing is coupled to an access cover, and the lever is configured to move the access cover in the second linear direction along the device housing.

21

21. The system of claim 20 , comprising the device housing, wherein the access cover and the device housing latch and unlatch with one another in directions parallel with the first and second linear directions.
