1

1. A method of controlling wireless communications over a shared wireless link, the method comprising: transferring first credits to a first wireless communication device at a first credit transmission rate, wherein the first credits indicate first time periods for the first wireless communication device to use the shared wireless link; transferring second credits to a second wireless communication device at a second credit transmission rate, wherein the second credits indicate second time periods for the second wireless communication device to use the shared wireless link; changing the first credit transmission rate; and changing the second credit transmission rate.

2

2. The method of claim 1 wherein changing the first credit transmission rate and the second credit transmission rate comprises changing the first credit transmission rate and the second credit transmission rate in response to collisions on the shared wireless link.

3

3. The method of claim 2 wherein changing the first credit transmission rate and the second credit transmission rate in response to the collisions on the shared wireless link comprises increasing the first credit transmission rate and the second credit transmission rate.

4

4. The method of claim 1 wherein changing the first credit transmission rate comprises changing the first credit transmission rate based on a time of day.

5

5. The method of claim 1 wherein changing the first credit transmission rate comprises changing the first credit transmission rate based on a day of week.

6

6. The method of claim 1 wherein changing the first credit transmission rate comprises changing the first credit transmission rate based on a day of year.

7

7. The method of claim 1 wherein changing the first credit transmission rate comprises changing the first credit transmission rate based on a class of service for the first wireless communication device.

8

8. The method of claim 1 wherein changing the first credit transmission rate comprises changing the first credit transmission rate based on a customer profile for the first wireless communication device.

9

9. The method of claim 1 wherein changing the first credit transmission rate comprises changing the first credit transmission rate based on a packet transfer time for the first wireless communication device.

10

10. The method of claim 1 wherein the shared wireless link comprises a Multichannel Multipoint Distribution Service (MMDS) frequency range.

11

11. A wireless communication system to control wireless communications over a shared wireless link, the wireless system comprising: a processing system configured to generate first credits for a first wireless communication device and generate second credits for a second wireless communication device, wherein the first credits indicate first time periods for the first wireless communication device to use the shared wireless link and wherein the second credits indicate second time periods for the second wireless communication device to use the shared wireless link; a communication interface configured to transfer the first credits at a first credit transmission rate and to transfer the second credits at a second credit transmission rate; and wherein the processing system is configured to change the first credit transmission rate and change the second credit transmission rate.

12

12. The wireless communication system of claim 11 wherein the processing system is configured to change the first credit transmission rate and the second credit transmission rate in response to collisions on the shared wireless link.

13

13. The wireless communication system of claim 12 wherein the processing system is configured to increase the first credit transmission rate and the second credit transmission rate in response to the collisions on the shared wireless link.

14

14. The wireless communication system of claim 11 wherein the processing system is configured to change the first credit transmission rate based on a time of day.

15

15. The wireless communication system of claim 11 wherein the processing system is configured to change the first credit transmission rate based on a day of week.

16

16. The wireless communication system of claim 11 wherein the processing system is configured to change the first credit transmission rate based on a day of year.

17

17. The wireless communication system of claim 11 wherein the processing system is configured to change the first credit transmission rate based on a class of service for the first wireless communication device.

18

18. The wireless communication system method of claim 11 wherein the processing system is configured to change the first credit transmission rate based on a customer profile for the first wireless communication device.

19

19. The wireless communication system of claim 11 wherein the processing system is configured to change the first credit transmission rate based on a packet transfer time for the first wireless communication device.

20

20. The wireless communication system of claim 11 wherein the shared wireless link comprises a Multichannel Multipoint Distribution Service (MMDS) frequency range.
