1. An AV contents transmitting method for transmitting encrypted AV contents to a plurality of AV contents reception apparatuses over a transmission line, the plurality of AV contents reception apparatuses including a first AV contents reception apparatus compatible with first and second encryption methods and a second AV contents reception apparatus compatible with the second encryption method and incompatible with the first encryption method, the AV contents transmitting method comprising the steps of: encrypting AV contents using the first encryption method, said step of encrypting being executed in an AV contents transmission apparatus; transmitting the AV contents encrypted using the first encryption method over the transmission line to the first AV contents reception apparatus; receiving an authentication request from the second AV contents reception apparatus; and switching the encryption of the AV contents from the first encryption method to the second encryption method, said step of switching being executed in the AV contents transmission apparatus.
2. The AV contents transmitting method according to claim 1 , further comprising transmitting a notification to the first AV contents reception apparatus which receives and decrypts the AV contents in the first encryption method that the encryption of the AV contents is switched from the first encryption method to the second encryption method.
3. The AV contents transmitting method according to claim 2 , wherein the notification of switching the first encryption method to the second encryption method is given in a predetermined command or is added to the AV contents.
4. The AV contents transmitting method according to claim 3 , wherein information about what encryption method is used as the second encryption method after the switch is given in a predetermined command or is added to the AV contents.
5. The AV contents transmitting method according to claim 3 , wherein an encryption key or a seed of the encryption key used in the second encryption method after the switch is given in a predetermined command or is added to the AV contents.
6. The AV contents transmitting method according to claim 1 , wherein a switching timing of the encryption methods is an updating timing for an encryption key in the first encryption method used before the authentication request is received.
7. The AV contents transmitting method according to claim 2 , further comprising transmitting a notification that the encryption of the AV contents is to be switched from the first encryption method to the second encryption method, and information about a switching timing of the encryption methods to at least the first AV contents reception apparatus.
8. The AV contents transmitting method according to claim 1 , wherein: said AV contents transmission apparatus stores an indication of an AV contents reception apparatus which issued the authentication request; and it is determined whether or not a command requesting an encryption key for decryption of the AV contents or a seed of the encryption key is received from the second AV contents reception apparatus, and when the command is not received, the encryption of the AV contents is switched from the second encryption method to the first encryption method.
9. The AV contents transmitting method according to claim 1 , wherein: said AV contents transmission apparatus checks an encryption method available by each of the AV contents reception apparatuses; and when an AV contents reception apparatus transmitting a command requesting an encryption key for decryption of the AV contents and the seed of the encryption key is an AV contents reception apparatus capable of using the first encryption method, the encryption of the AV contents is switched from the second encryption method to the first encryption method.
10. A computer-readable program recording medium tangibly embodying a program for directing a computer to perform each function of all or a part of each step of the AV contents transmitting method according to any one of claims 1 through 9 .
11. An AV contents receiving method, comprising the steps of: receiving AV contents transmitted from the AV contents transmitting method according to any one of claims 1 through 9 ; and decrypting the encrypted AV contents based on an encryption method used when the AV contents are encrypted and using an encryption key used in the encryption method used to encrypt the AV contents or a seed of the encryption key.
12. The AV contents receiving method according to claim 11 , wherein: there is information about switching the encryption of the AV contents from the first encryption method to the second encryption method transmitted together with or in the AV contents in the AV contents transmitting method; and when the information contains none or one of the information about what encryption method is used after the switch, and the encryption key used in the encryption method or a seed of the encryption key, the information about what encryption method is used after the switch, or the encryption key used in the encryption method or a seed of the encryption key, whichever is not contained in the information relating to the switch of the encryption method, is to be transmitted to the AV contents transmission apparatus.
13. A computer-readable program recording medium tangibly embodying a program for directing a computer to perform each function of all or a part of each step of the AV contents receiving method according to claim 11 .
14. An AV contents transmission apparatus, comprising: encryption method selection means selecting an encryption method from first and second encryption methods, the selected encryption method used when AV contents to be transmitted are encrypted; encryption key generation means generating an encryption key for encrypting AV contents corresponding to the encryption method selected by said encryption method selection means; encryption means receiving AV contents, also receiving the encryption key from the encryption key generation means, and encrypting the AV contents using the selected encryption method; a transmission side authentication and key exchange means performing an authentication and key exchange process with an AV contents reception apparatus; and data transfer means transmitting the AV contents encrypted according to the selected encryption method to a plurality of AV contents reception apparatuses, the plurality of AV contents reception apparatuses including a first AV contents reception apparatus compatible with first and second encryption methods and a second AV contents reception apparatus compatible with the second encryption method and incompatible with the first encryption method, wherein when the detected encryption method is the first encryption method and the second AV contents reception apparatus is receiving the AV contents encrypted in the first encryption method, and when the second AV contents reception apparatus which cannot use the first encryption method issues an authentication request, the transmission side authentication and key exchange means performs an authentication process with the second AV contents reception apparatus which issued the authentication request, and said encryption method selection means switches the encryption of the AV contents from the first encryption method to the second encryption method which the second AV contents reception apparatus which issued the authentication request can use, said switching being executed in the AV contents transmission apparatus.
15. The AV contents transmission apparatus according to claim 14 , further comprising an encryption method notification means that issues a notification that the selected encryption method is switched into the second encryption method to the first AV contents reception apparatus which is provided in addition to the second AV contents reception apparatus which issues the authentication request, and receives and decrypts the AV contents encrypted in the first encryption method.
16. The AV contents transmission apparatus according to claim 14 , wherein: said encryption key generation means periodically or non-periodically updates the encryption key; said encryption method selection means switches the selected encryption method into the second encryption method at a timing of said encryption key generation means updating the encryption key in the first encryption method.
17. The AV contents transmission apparatus according to claim 14 , wherein: said transmission side authentication and key exchange means stores an indication of an AV contents reception apparatus which issued the authentication request, and it is determined whether or not a command requesting an encryption key for decryption of the AV contents or a seed of the encryption key is received from the second AV contents reception apparatus; and when the command is not received, said encryption key generation means switches the selected encryption method from the second encryption method to the first encryption method.
18. The AV contents transmission apparatus according to claim 14 , wherein: said transmission side authentication and key exchange means checks the encryption method available by each of the AV contents reception apparatus which issued the authentication request and the other AV contents reception apparatus; and when an AV contents reception apparatus transmitting a command requesting an encryption key for decryption of the AV contents and the seed of the encryption key is an AV contents reception apparatus capable of using the first encryption method, said encryption key generation means switches the selected encryption method from the second encryption method to the first encryption method.
19. An AV contents reception apparatuses comprising: a reception side authentication and key exchange means performing an authentication and key exchange process with said AV contents transmission apparatus according to claim 14 ; an encryption method storage means storing information about an encryption method used in encrypting AV contents from said AV contents transmission apparatus; and a decryption means receiving encrypted AV contents from the AV contents transmission apparatus, receiving an encryption key or a seed of the encryption key from said AV contents transmission apparatus, and decrypting the encrypted AV contents using the encryption key or the seed of the encryption key based on the encryption method stored in said encryption method storage means.

The AV contents reception apparatus according to claim 19 further comprising: a request means requesting transmitting information such that: there is information about switching the encryption method transmitted together with or in the AV contents from said AV contents transmission apparatus, and when the information contains none or one of the information about what encryption method is used after the switch, and the encryption key used in the encryption method or a seed of the encryption key, the information about what encryption method is used after the switch, or the encryption key used in the encryption method or a seed of the encryption key, whichever is not contained in the information is to be transmitted.
