Legal claims defining the scope of protection, as filed with the USPTO.
1. A translation method for translating a source text in a given source language input into a computer into a text in a target language, comprising the steps of: extracting an unregistered word that is not registered in a database referenceable to said computer; if said extracted unregistered word contains two or more successive identical characters, generating a modified word from said unregistered word by reducing the number of the successive identical characters; if the modified word is registered, determining the part of speech and attributes of said modified word with respect to said source text; and translating said source text with reference to said database, said unregistered word in said source text translated using said modified word, and when said modified word has an emphatic attribute, said translating further comprising obtaining an emphasized target-language word associated with said emphatic attribute from said database as said translation for said unregistered word.
2. The translation method according to claim 1 , wherein said step of generating the modified word reduces the number of successive identical characters from three or more to two or reduces the number of successive identical characters from two or more to one.
3. The translation method according to claim 1 , further comprising the step of outputting a translation in a manner that makes it obvious that a target-language word equivalent to said unregistered word in said translation is translated based on said modified word.
4. The translation method according to claim 1 , wherein said step of translating the source text extracts from said database a target-language word for a target-language modified word equivalent to said modified word.
5. An output method for outputting by a computer a translation made by said computer, comprising the steps of: identifying a coined word spelled differently from standard orthography in a source text input into said computer; determining a part of speech and attributes of the coined word in the source text input; and outputting the translation made from said source text containing said coined word; wherein if the coined word has an emphatic attribute, said step of outputting the translation applies an emphasized target-language word equivalent to said coined word identified in said identifying step and associated with the emphatic attribute and outputs said translation.
6. The output method according to claim 5 , wherein said step of outputting the translation highlights said target-language word by providing a predetermined appearance to said target-language word or altering the font of said target-language word.
7. A storage medium on which a program to be executed by a computer is stored in a form readable to said computer, wherein said program causes said computer to perform: morphological analysis for extracting from a database referenceable to said computer the parts of speech and attributes of words making up a source text input into said computer; syntactic analysis for generating syntactic tree data having a tree structure for the source text based on the result of said morphological analysis; a syntax generation process for generating syntactic tree data for a target sentence based on the result of said syntactic analysis; and a translation generation process for obtaining target-language words equivalent to said words making up said source text from said database and linking said target-language words together based on said syntactic tree data for the target sentence to generate a translation; wherein, if said source text contains an unregistered word that is not registered in said database and said unregistered word contains two or more successive identical characters, the number of said successive identical characters is reduced to one or two to generate a modified word and the part of speech and the attribute of said modified word are extracted from said database in place of said unregistered word in said morphological analysis, and wherein, if said modified word replacing said unregistered word has an emphatic attribute, said computer is caused to obtain an emphasized target-language word associated with said emphatic attribute as said target-language word from said database and generate the translation containing said emphasized target-language word in said translation generation process.
8. The storage medium according to claim 7 , wherein said computer is caused to add data to said target-language word equivalent to said modified word for indicating that said target-language word is translated from said modified word in said translation generation process.
9. A program for causing a computer to perform translation, comprising the steps of: extracting an unregistered word that is not registered in a database referenceable to said computer from a source sentence input into said computer; changing the number of repeated characters in said unregistered word and, if the changed unregistered word matches a registered word registered in said database, using said registered word in place of said unregistered word to translate said source text; and displaying a translation in a manner that the part in which said registered word is used in place of said unregistered word can be distinguished from the other parts of said translation, wherein said step of displaying said translation comprises the step of causing said computer to use are registered emphasized target-language word as a target-language word equivalent to said part in which said registered word is used in place of said unregistered word.
10. The program according to claim 9 , wherein said step of displaying said translation comprises the step of causing said computer to perform at least one of addition of predetermined emphasizing data to, change of the font of, and change of the color of the part in which said registered word is used in place of said unregistered word so that said part can be distinguished from the other parts.
11. A computer comprising: a database containing data on a plurality of words; an input module for inputting data on a source text; a translation module for translating said input source text with reference to said database; and an output module for outputting data on a translation of said source text; wherein said translation module reduces the number of successive identical characters contained in an emphasized word to generate a modified word and obtains a target-language word equivalent to said modified word, wherein emphatic attribute data used as an attribute for identifying said target-language word and an emphasized target-language word associated with said emphatic attribute data are associated with and registered with said modified word in said database; and if said emphatic attribute data associated with said modified word and is found in said database, said output module outputs the data on the translation in which said emphasized target-language word associated with said emphatic attribute data is used as said target-language word.
12. The computer according to claim 11 , wherein said output module outputs data indicating that said target-language word in said data on the translation is translated based on said modified word, together with said data on translation.
13. The computer according to claim 12 , further comprising a display for displaying the translation in which said target-language word is emphasized based on said data on the translation that is provided from said output module.
