1. A method comprising: via a computer: identifying a reference within a figure, wherein the reference refers to a figure element depicted in the figure via a line extending between the reference and the figure element; identifying an identifier in a text describing the figure, wherein the identifier corresponds to the reference, wherein the identifier identifies the figure element in the text; at least one of: replacing the reference on the figure with a copy of the identifier, or placing a copy of the identifier within the figure element depicted on the figure.

2

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: printing the figure after the replacing, wherein the printed figure includes the placed copy of the identifier but not the replaced reference.

3

3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: placing, via the computer, a copy of another identifier onto the figure, wherein the placed copy of the another identifier is adjacent to the placed copy of the identifier without overlapping the placed copy of the identifier when the another identifier also corresponds to the reference in the text.

4

4. A method comprising: identifying, via a computer, a reference on a page, wherein the page comprises on illustration, wherein the reference refers to an element of the illustration via a first line on the page, wherein the first line extends from the reference to the element; identifying, via the computer, an identifier in a textual description of the illustration, wherein the identifier corresponds to the reference, wherein the identifier identifies the element in the textual description; placing, via the computer, a copy of the identifier onto the page; placing, via the computer, a second line onto the page, wherein the second line extends from the reference to the placed copy such that the placed copy is visually associated with the reference on the page via the second line.

5

5. The method of claim 4 , wherein the second line is colored for visual distinction from at least one of the first line, the reference, and the placed copy.

6

6. The method of claim 4 , wherein the placed copy is colored for visual distinction from at least one of the first line, the reference, and the second line.

7

7. The method of claim 4 , wherein the illustration and the textual description are stored in different locations.

8

8. The method of claim 4 , wherein the identifier is a first identifier, wherein the placed copy is a first copy, and further comprising: placing, via the computer, a second copy of a second identifier onto the illustration adjacent to the first copy without overlapping the first copy when the second identifier also corresponds to the reference in the textual description.

9

9. The method of claim 4 , further comprising: creating, via the computer, a bidirectional hyperlink relationship between the identifier in the textual description and the placed copy.

10

10. The method of claim 4 , further comprising: mapping, via the computer, a patent claim to the illustration based at least in part on the placed copy, wherein the patent claim is sourced from a file.

11

11. The method of claim 4 , wherein the textual description is at least partially in a first human language, wherein the placed copy is in a second human language translated from the first human language.

12

12. The method of claim 1 4 , further comprising: avoiding, via the computer, the placing the copy if the identifier is associated with at least one of a length, a width, a depth, a volume, a diameter, a radius, a density, and a direction.

13

13. The method of claim 4 , wherein the placed copy is positioned on the page on an axis of orientation such that a viewer avoids rotating the page to read the placed copy.

14

14. A method comprising: identifying, via a computer, a reference on a page, wherein the page comprises an illustration, wherein the reference refers to an element of the illustration via a line on the page, wherein the line extends between the reference and the element; identifying, via the computer, an identifier in a textual description of the illustration, wherein the identifier corresponds to the reference, wherein the identifier identifies the element in the textual description; placing, via the computer, a copy of the identifier onto the page; placing, via the computer, a shape onto the page, wherein the shape encloses the reference and the placed copy.

15

15. The method of claim 14 , wherein the placed copy is colored for visual distinction from at least one of the line, the reference, and the shape.

16

16. The method claim 14 , wherein the shape is colored for visual distinction from at least one of the line, the reference, and the placed copy.

17

17. The method of claim 14 , further comprising: printing the page with the illustration, wherein the shape enclosing the reference and the placed copy on the printed page.

18

18. The method of claim 14 , wherein the placing the copy is user-customizable.

19

19. The method of claim 14 , further comprising: creating, via the computer, a bidirectional hyperlink relationship between the identifier in the textual description and the placed copy.

20

20. The method of claim 14 , further comprising: mapping, via the computer, a patent claim to the illustration based at least in part on the placed copy, wherein the patent claim is sourced from a file.

21

21. The method of claim 14 , wherein the textual description is at least partially in a first human language, wherein the placed copy is in a second human language translated from the first human language.

22

22. The method of claim 14 , further comprising: avoiding, via the computer, the placing the copy if the identifier is associated with at least one of a length, a width, a depth, a volume, a diameter, a radius, a density, and a direction.

23

23. The method of claim 14 , wherein the placed copy is positioned on the page on an axis of orientation such that a viewer avoids rotating the page to read the placed copy.

24

24. A method of computerized annotation, the method comprising: receiving, by a first computer, a file from a second computer over a network, wherein the file comprises a figure and a text, wherein the figure comprises an element, a first line, and a reference, wherein the first line extends between the element and the reference, wherein the text describes the figure, wherein the text comprises an identifier corresponding to the reference, wherein the identifier identifies the element, wherein the first computer is coupled to the network, wherein the second computer is coupled to the network; opening, by the first computer, the file; performing, by the first computer, an optical character recognition on the figure; identifying, by the first computer, the reference based at least in part on the optical character recognition; performing, by the first computer, an alphanumeric search of the text for the identifier based at least in part on the reference identified based at least in part on the optical character recognition; identifying, by the first computer, the identifier based at least in part on the alphanumeric search; modifying, by the first computer, the file based at least in part on the identifier identified based at least in part on the alphanumeric search, wherein the modifying comprises at least one of: a) replacing, by the first computer, the reference with a copy of the identifier, b) placing, by the first computer, a copy of the identifier within the element, c) placing, by the first computer, a second line and a copy of the identifier onto the figure, wherein the second line extends between the reference and the copy of the identifier, or d) placing, by the first computer, a shape and a copy of the identifier onto the figure, wherein the shape encloses the reference and the copy of the identifier; and displaying, by the first computer, the figure based at least in part on the modifying.

25

25. The method of claim 24 , wherein the copy of the identifier is colored to be visually distinct from at least one of the first line, the second line, the reference, or the shape.

26

26. The method claim 24 , wherein the shape is colored to be visually distinct from at least one of the first line, the second line, the reference, or the copy of the identifier.

27

27. The method of claim 24 , further comprising: hyperlinking, by the first computer, at least one of the reference or the copy of the identifier in the figure such that the at least one of the reference or the copy of the identifier leads to the identifier in the text upon clicking.

28

28. The method of claim 24 , further comprising: segmenting, by the first computer, a patent claim into a plurality of segments, wherein the file is a first file, wherein the patent claim is sourced from a second file; determining, by the first computer, if at least one of the segments is present in the figure based at least in part on a match of the at least one of the segments to the copy of the identifier in the figure; displaying, by the first computer, a notification based at least in part on the match.

29

29. The method of claim 24 , further comprising: translating, by the first computer, at least a portion of the text from a first human language to a second human language, wherein the translating is based at least in part on a human language data source which is at least one of local to the first computer or remote from the first computer over the network, wherein the portion comprises the identifier in the first language, wherein the copy of the identifier positioned on the figure is in the second language.

30

30. The method of claim 29 , wherein the translating is before the modifying.

31
