Method and Apparatus for Managing Bookmark Information for Content Stored in a Networked Media Server

1. A method for managing rendering state information and transporting state information, the method performed by a playing device and comprising: receiving a state information request from a controller, the state information request for obtaining the rendering state information and the transporting state information associated with playback of a content item, wherein the content item indicates audio/video (AV) data to be bookmarked for reproduction by the playing device, wherein the rendering state information is associated with a rendering control service and comprises at least sound volume or display brightness, wherein the transporting state information is associated with an AV transport service and comprises at least presentation time; and transmitting the rendering state information and the transporting state information to the controller according to the state information request in order to create a bookmark item in a server, wherein the created bookmark item is associated with the content item and comprises a content identifier (ID) of the associated content item, the rendering state information, the transporting state information, and a bookmark identifier (ID) that uniquely identifies the created bookmark item, wherein the bookmark item is created under a container assigned by the controller; wherein the content item is updated to include the bookmark ID of the created bookmark item in order to associate the content item with the created bookmark item, wherein the bookmark item is searched using the bookmark ID included in the content item when the server receives a deleting request from the controller and the searched bookmark item is deleted, and wherein the content item is updated by removing the bookmark ID from the content item when the bookmark item is deleted.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the bookmark ID is generated by the server.

A playing device for managing rendering state information and transporting state information, the playing device comprising: an interface unit configured to receive a state information request from a controller, the state information request for obtaining the rendering state information and the transporting state information associated with playback of a content item, wherein the content item indicates audio/video (AV) data to be bookmarked for reproduction by the playing device, wherein the rendering state information is associated with a rendering control service and comprises at least sound volume or display brightness, wherein the transporting state information is associated with an AV transport service and comprises at least presentation time; and a control unit configured to: transmit the rendering state information and the transporting state information to the controller via the interface unit according to the state information request in order to create a bookmark item in a server, wherein the created bookmark item is associated with the content item and comprises a content identifier (ID) of the associated content item, the rendering state information, the transporting state information, and a bookmark identifier (ID) that uniquely identifies the created bookmark item, wherein the bookmark item is created under a container assigned by the controller; wherein the content item is updated to include the bookmark ID of the created bookmark item in order to associate the content item with the created bookmark item, wherein the bookmark item is searched using the bookmark ID included in the content item when the server receives a deleting request from the controller and the searched bookmark item is deleted, and wherein the content item is updated by removing the bookmark ID from the content item when the bookmark item is deleted.

4. The playing device of claim 3 , wherein the bookmark ID is generated by the server.
