1

1. A computer implemented method comprising: receiving, from a user, a request to declare email bankruptcy of an email account associated with the user; in response to receiving the request to declare email bankruptcy, identifying emails within the email account based on one or more predetermined parameters; automatically moving the identified emails to a designated location; and sending a notification to one or more senders associated with the identified emails.

2

2. The computer implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising: providing a user interface for selecting parameters related to reducing an amount of emails in the email account; and receiving the one or more predetermined parameters from the user interface.

3

3. The computer implemented method of claim 2 , wherein the user interface is provided in response to receiving the request to declare email bankruptcy.

4

4. The computer implemented method of claim 2 , wherein the one or more predetermined parameters comprise one or more selected senders, wherein the identified emails are associated with the one or more selected senders.

5

5. The computer implemented method of claim 2 , wherein the one or more predetermined parameters include one or more selected keywords, the method further comprising: determining at least a portion of the identified emails based on a search of the email account using one or more selected keywords.

6

6. The computer implemented method of claim 2 , wherein identifying emails comprises: initially identifying at least all unread emails in the email account; and excluding one or more emails from the initially identified emails based on the one or more predetermined parameters.

7

7. The computer implemented method of claim 6 , wherein the one or more predetermined parameters comprise one or more keywords, and wherein the one or more emails are excluded based on a search of the email account using the one or more keywords.

8

8. The computer implemented method of claim 6 , wherein the one or more predetermined parameters comprise one or more selected senders, and wherein excluding the one or more emails comprises: determining a list of senders for the initially identified emails; and excluding emails associated with the one or more selected senders from the initially identified emails.

9

9. The computer implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising: during a predetermined period of time, upon receiving an incoming email associated with one of the identified emails, deleting the incoming email and transmitting a message instructing the sender to wait until after the predetermined period of time to resend the incoming email.

10

10. The computer implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising: determining at least a portion of the identified emails by comparing a plurality of emails with a text classifier to identify one or more groups of automated emails.

11

11. The computer implemented method of claim 10 , wherein sending the notification comprises: sending to one or more senders associated with the one or more groups of automated emails an instruction to unsubscribe the email account from receiving further automated emails.

12

12. The computer implemented method of claim 1 , wherein moving the identified emails to a designated location comprises attaching or removing a label to the identified emails.

13

13. The computer implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the designated location is a trash folder and the identified emails are marked for deletion.

14

14. A machine-readable medium including machine-executable instructions for performing a method comprising: receiving an instruction representative of a user request to declare email bankruptcy of a user email account; providing, in response to the instruction, a user interface for selecting parameters related to reducing the amount of emails; receiving one or more parameters selected or input at the user interface; identifying emails based on at least the one or more received parameters; and removing the identified emails from the email account.

15

15. The machine-readable medium of claim 14 , the method further comprising: sending a notification to one or more senders associated with the identified emails.

16

16. The machine-readable medium of claim 14 , wherein the user interface comprises a list of predetermined emails, wherein the identified emails are identified by: removing a plurality of emails associated with the one or more received parameters from the list of predetermined emails.

17

17. The machine-readable medium of claim 14 , wherein the one or more parameters comprise one or more keywords.

18

18. The machine-readable medium of claim 14 , wherein the one or more parameters comprise one or more email senders.

19

19. A computer implemented method comprising: receiving an indication that a user has made a request to declare email bankruptcy of an email account associated with the user; in response to receiving the indication, identifying a first set of senders based on one or more parameters; deleting or moving to a predetermined location emails from the first set of senders, while retaining within the email account emails from a second set of senders; and sending a notification to one or more of the first set of senders.

20

20. The computer implemented method of claim 19 , further comprising: upon receiving an incoming email associated with a sender in the first set of senders for a predetermined period of time, deleting or moving the incoming email and instructing the sender to wait until after the predetermined period of time to resend the incoming email.
