A method for controlling home devices via a home network, by a first home device connected to the home network, the method comprising: detecting presently connected home devices on the home network automatically; displaying a user interface comprising at least one or more representations of room areas, wherein one of the one or more representations of room areas corresponds to a named room placement in a home and includes at least one representation comprising a graphical image or logo of at least one detected home device displayed in the named room placement; accepting a user input made on a representation of a second home device from the at least one detected home device for controlling the second home device; and sending control information to the second home device based on the user input.

A method for controlling home devices connected via a home network, the method comprising: automatically detecting connected home devices on the home network; displaying a user interface comprising at least one or more representations of room areas, wherein one of the one or more representations of room areas corresponds to a named room location in a home and includes at least one representation comprising a graphical image or logo of a detected first home device in the named room location; accepting input made on a representation of a second home device from the detected first home device for controlling the second home device; and sending control information to the second home device based on the input.
