A system, comprising: a network interface; a review server comprising hardware; a backup-enabled video review data store comprising a plurality of video reviews from a plurality of users received from multiple user terminals; at least one processing device; and non-transitory memory storing programmatic code that when executed by the at least one processing device, cause the system to perform operations comprising: receiving and compressing video reviews; receiving and storing representative photographic images corresponding to the received video reviews, wherein at least a portion of the photographic images are not from the received video reviews; storing multiple copies of the received video reviews, including compressed video reviews, in the backup-enabled video review data store; receiving an indication that a first user is at a first physical location based at least in part on location information provided by a mobile device of the first user, wherein the location information comprises GPS-based, WiFi-based, and/or cell tower-based location information; identifying using the location information comprising the GPS-based, WiFi-based, and/or cell tower-based location information, one or more merchants in a vicinity of the first user's first physical location; identifying one or more items offered by the identified one or more merchants in the vicinity of the first user's first physical location; providing the first user using the network interface, via an application installed on the mobile device of the first user, with access to respective feedback from other users and to respective images for at least a first of the one or more items offered by the identified one or more merchants in the vicinity of the first user's first physical location; transmitting, using the network interface, information regarding one or more of the identified merchants to the mobile device of the first user; generating and storing analytical information related to the first user's use of the application installed on the mobile device of the first user; streaming a first video file to the mobile device of the first user from the backup-enabled video review data store; causing, using the network interface and an application programming interface (API), a first representative image comprising a first photographic image and corresponding to a video review in the first video file of the first item to be displayed at a first location in a scrubber area of a video player the scrubber area comprising a draggable scrubber, displayed in association with playback of the first video file, that indicates video playback progress via a scrubber timeline during a time period in which the first video file is being played, and which is manipulable to control playback of the first video file, and a second representative image comprising a second photographic image and corresponding to a video review of a second item in the first video file to be displayed at a second location in the scrubber area at the same time the first representative image is displayed at the first location in the scrubber area, wherein the first photographic image is not from the review of the first item and the second photographic image is not from the video review of the second item; detecting a selection by the first user of the first representative image at the first location in the scrubber area or the second representative image at the second location in the scrubber area; and in response to a detection of a user selection of the first representative image or the second representative image causing playback of the first video file to jump to the corresponding review in the first video file.
A system provides user-generated video reviews, comprising: A network interface for communication; a server; and a data store containing video reviews from many users. When a user is near a store (location determined by mobile GPS/WiFi/cell data), the system identifies nearby merchants and their products. The user, via a mobile app, receives access to other users' feedback and images for those products. The user's app activity is tracked. The system streams video reviews. A video player shows representative images (not from the reviews) in the scrubber area (timeline) of a video. Selecting these images jumps the video to the corresponding review segment. The system duplicates the videos as a form of backup.
2. The system as defined in claim 1 , the operations further comprising: transmitting addresses of one or more of the identified merchants to the mobile device of the first user; providing discount coupons or codes for at least one of the one or more items offered by the identified one or more merchants in the vicinity of the first user's first physical location; causing the first user to be prompted to take a first action when the first user enters a first of the identified one or more merchants in a vicinity of the first user's first physical location; receiving from the mobile device of the first user information scanned from a first item; identifying information related to the first item based at least in part on the received scanned information; providing to the first user, via the application installed on the mobile device of the first user, the identified information related to the first item from which the information was scanned; and enabling the first user to post on a social networking site an indication that the first user has purchased at least one item.
The system described above also sends store addresses to the user's phone, provides discounts, and prompts actions when the user enters a store. The user can scan a product; the system identifies it and provides information in the app. The user can post about purchasing an item to social media. The core idea is location-aware, incentivized interaction tied to user-generated video reviews.
3. The system as defined in claim 1 , wherein identifying one or more merchants in a vicinity of the first user's first physical location further comprises identifying one or more merchants within 30 meters of the first user's first physical location.
In the system above, the identification of nearby merchants is refined to mean finding merchants within 30 meters of the user's location. This increases accuracy for hyper-local recommendations.
4. The system as defined in claim 1 , wherein transmitting information regarding one or more of the identified merchants to the mobile device of the first user further comprises transmitting addresses of one or more of the identified merchants to the mobile device of the first user and wherein identifying one or more items offered by the identified one or more merchants in the vicinity of the first user's first physical location further comprises identifying one or more items offered by the identified one or more merchants in the vicinity of the first user's first physical location that the identified one or more merchants have in inventory based on inventory information of the identified one or more merchants, the method further comprising enabling the first user to purchase at least one of the identified one or more items from at least one of the identified merchants in the vicinity of the first user's first physical location via the application installed on the mobile device of the first user.
In the system above, in addition to sending store addresses to the phone, the system also filters the identified items based on inventory data. The user can purchase available items from nearby stores via the app, creating an integrated shopping experience.
5. The system as defined in claim 1 , the operations further comprising providing discount coupons or codes for at least one of the one or more items offered by the identified one or more merchants in the vicinity of the first user's first physical location.
The system described above further provides discount coupons or codes for products offered by merchants near the user, incentivizing purchases.
6. The system as defined in claim 1 , the operations further comprising causing, at least in part, the application installed on the mobile device of the first user to provide a prompt to the first user when the first user enters a first of the identified one or more merchants in a vicinity of the first user's first physical location.
The system described above uses the mobile app to prompt the user when entering a store, enabling context-aware interactions.
7. The system as defined in claim 1 , the operations further comprising providing the first user an incentive, the inventive comprising a discount, to take a first action in a first of the identified one or more merchants in a vicinity of the first user's first physical location.
The system described above gives the user an incentive (like a discount) to perform an action in a nearby store, further motivating engagement.
8. The system as defined in claim 1 , the operations further comprising: receiving from the mobile device of the first user information scanned from at least one item; identifying information related to the at least one item based at least in part on the received scanned information; and providing to the application installed on the mobile device of the first user the identified information related to the at least one item.
The system described above can receive scanned product information from the user's phone, identify the product, and provide that information back to the app, linking physical and digital product data.
9. The system as defined in claim 1 , the operations further comprising: enabling, via the application installed on the mobile device, the first user to poll others regarding a first item via a social networking site.
The system described above allows the user to poll their social network about a product via the mobile app, integrating social feedback into the shopping experience.
10. The system as defined in claim 1 , the operations further comprising: enabling, via the application installed on the mobile device, the first user to post on a social networking site an indication that the first user wants a least a first item.
The system described above allows the user to post on social media that they want a product, creating a wish-list functionality.

The system as defined in claim 1 , the operations further comprising: presenting, via the application installed on the mobile device, information regarding a first item; and enabling the first user to post on a social networking site an indication that the first user has purchased the first item.
The system described above presents product information in the app and allows the user to post a purchase confirmation on social media, sharing their buying experience.

A method, comprising: receiving, at a system comprising a network interface, a review server, and a backup-enabled video review data store comprising a plurality of video reviews from a plurality of users received from multiple user terminals, video reviews from a plurality of user terminals; compressing one or more video reviews; receiving and storing representative photographic images corresponding to the received video reviews, wherein at least a portion of the photographic images are not from the received video reviews; storing multiple copies of the received video reviews, including compressed video reviews, in the backup-enabled video review data store; receiving an indication that a first user is at a first physical location based at least in part on location information provided by a mobile device of the first user, wherein the location information comprises GPS-based, WiFi-based, and/or cell tower-based location information; identifying, using the location information comprising the GPS-based, WiFi-based, and/or cell tower-based location information, one or more merchants in a vicinity of the first user's first physical location; identifying one or more items offered by the identified one or more merchants in the vicinity of the first user's first physical location; providing the first user using the network interface, via an application installed on the mobile device of the first user, with access to respective feedback from other users and to respective images for at least a first of the one or more items offered by the identified one or more merchants in the vicinity of the first user's first physical location; transmitting, using the network interface, information regarding one or more of the identified merchants to the mobile device of the first user; and generating and storing analytical information related to the first user's use of the application installed on the mobile device of the first user; causing, using the network interface, a first representative image comprising a first photographic image and corresponding to a video review in a first video file of the first item to be displayed at a first location in a scrubber area of a video player the scrubber area comprising a draggable scrubber, displayed in association with playback of the first video file, that indicates video playback progress via a scrubber timeline during a time period in which the first video file is being played, and which is manipulable to control playback of the first video file, and a second representative image comprising a second photographic image and corresponding to a video review of a second item in the first video file to be displayed at a second location in the scrubber area at the same time the first representative image is displayed at the first location in the scrubber area, wherein the first photographic image is not from the review of the first item and the second photographic image is not from the video review of the second item; detecting a selection by the first user of the first representative image at the first location in the scrubber area or the second representative image at the second location in the scrubber area; and in response to a detection of a user selection of the first representative image or the second representative image causing playback of the first video file to jump to the corresponding review in the first video file to be displayed by the video player.
A method for providing user-generated video reviews involves receiving videos from users, compressing them, storing them in a backup-enabled data store with duplicate video copies, and associating them with representative images. When a user is near a store (location determined by mobile GPS/WiFi/cell data), the method identifies nearby merchants and their products. The user, via a mobile app, receives access to other users' feedback and images for those products. The method tracks user app activity. A video player shows representative images (not from the reviews) in the scrubber area (timeline) of a video. Selecting these images jumps the video to the corresponding review segment.

The method as defined in claim 13 , the method further comprising: transmitting addresses of one or more of the identified merchants to the mobile device of the first user; providing discount coupons or codes for at least one of the one or more items offered by the identified one or more merchants in the vicinity of the first user's first physical location; causing the first user to be prompted to take a first action when the first user enters a first of the identified one or more merchants in a vicinity of the first user's first physical location; receiving from the mobile device of the first user information scanned from a first item; identifying information related to the first item based at least in part on the received scanned information; providing to the first user, via the application installed on the mobile device of the first user, the identified information related to the first item from which the information was scanned; and enabling the first user to post on a social networking site an indication that the first user has purchased at least one item.
The method described above also includes transmitting store addresses to the user's phone, providing discounts, and prompting actions when the user enters a store. The method receives scanned product information, identifies the product, provides information to the app, and enables social media purchase posting.
15. The method as defined in claim 13 , wherein identifying one or more merchants in a vicinity of the first user's first physical location further comprises identifying one or more merchants within 30 meters of the first user's first physical location.
In the method above, the identification of nearby merchants is refined to finding merchants within 30 meters of the user's location, improving accuracy for hyper-local recommendations.

The method as defined in claim 13 , wherein transmitting information regarding one or more of the identified merchants to the mobile device of the first user further comprises transmitting addresses of one or more of the identified merchants to the mobile device of the first user, and wherein identifying one or more items offered by the identified one or more merchants in the vicinity of the first user's first physical location further comprises identifying one or more items offered by the identified one or more merchants in the vicinity of the first user's first physical location that the identified one or more merchants have in inventory based on inventory information of the identified one or more merchants, the method further comprising enabling the first user to purchase at least one of the identified one or more items from at least one of the identified merchants in the vicinity of the first user's first physical location via the application installed on the mobile device of the first user.
In the method above, information about the nearby stores, specifically addresses, is sent to the user's mobile device. Also, the method filters identified items based on merchant inventory data, allowing users to purchase available items from nearby stores via the app.
17. The method as defined in claim 13 , the method further comprising providing discount coupons or codes for at least one of the one or more items offered by the identified one or more merchants in the vicinity of the first user's first physical location.
The method described above further includes providing discount coupons or codes for products offered by merchants near the user to incentivize purchases.

The method as defined in claim 13 , the method further comprising causing, at least in part, the application installed on the mobile device of the first user to provide a prompt to the first user when the first user enters a first of the identified one or more merchants in a vicinity of the first user's first physical location.
The method described above utilizes the mobile app to prompt the user when entering a store, enabling context-aware interactions.
19. The method as defined in claim 13 , the method further comprising providing the first user an incentive, the inventive comprising a discount, to take a first action in a first of the identified one or more merchants in a vicinity of the first user's first physical location.
The method described above involves giving the user an incentive (like a discount) to perform an action in a nearby store, increasing engagement.

The method as defined in claim 13 , the method further comprising: receiving from the mobile device of the first user information scanned from at least one item; identifying information related to the at least one item based at least in part on the received scanned information; and providing to the application installed on the mobile device of the first user the identified information related to the at least one item.

Non-transitory memory storing programmatic code that when executed by a system comprising at least one processing device, cause the system to perform operations comprising: receiving video reviews from a plurality of user terminals; compressing one or more video reviews; receiving and storing representative photographic images corresponding to the received video reviews, wherein at least a portion of the photographic images are not from the received video reviews; storing multiple copies of the received video reviews, including compressed video reviews, in a backup-enabled video review data store; receiving an indication that a first user is at a first physical location based at least in part on location information provided by a mobile device of the first user, wherein the location information comprises GPS-based, WiFi-based, and/or cell tower-based location information; identifying, using the location information comprising the GPS-based, WiFi-based, and/or cell tower-based location information, one or more merchants in a vicinity of the first user's first physical location; identifying one or more items offered by the identified one or more merchants in the vicinity of the first user's first physical location; providing, using a network interface, the first user with access to respective feedback from other users and to respective images for at least a first of the one or more items offered by the identified one or more merchants in the vicinity of the first user's first physical location; transmitting, using the network interface, information regarding one or more of the identified merchants to the mobile device of the first user; generating and storing analytical information related to the first user's use of the application installed on the mobile device of the first user causing, using the network interface, a first representative image comprising a first photographic image and corresponding to a video review in a first video file of the first item to be displayed at a first location in a scrubber area of a video player the scrubber area comprising a draggable scrubber, displayed in association with playback of the first video file, that indicates video playback progress via a scrubber timeline during a time period in which the first video file is being played, and which is manipulable to control playback of the first video file, and a second representative image comprising a second photographic image and corresponding to a video review of a second item in the first video file to be displayed at a second location in the scrubber area at the same time the first representative image is displayed at the first location in the scrubber area, wherein the first photographic image is not from the review of the first item and the second photographic image is not from the video review of the second item; detecting a selection by the first user of the first representative image at the first location in the scrubber area or the second representative image at the second location in the scrubber area; and in response to a detection of a user selection of the first representative image or the second representative image causing playback of the first video file to jump to the corresponding review to be displayed by the video player in the first video file.
Computer-readable memory stores instructions to provide user-generated video reviews. The instructions, when executed, cause the system to: Receive, compress, and back up video reviews from users. Associate these videos with representative images. When a user is near a store (location by GPS/WiFi/cell), identify nearby merchants and their products. Provide the user, via a mobile app, access to feedback and images. Transmit store information to the mobile device. Generate analytics on user app activity. Display representative images within a video player's timeline, and allow the user to jump to specific segments of the review by selecting the images. The representative images are not from the product review video itself.

The non-transitory memory as defined in claim 24 , the operations further comprising: transmitting addresses of one or more of the identified merchants to the mobile device of the first user; providing discount coupons or codes for at least one of the one or more items offered by the identified one or more merchants in the vicinity of the first user's first physical location; causing the first user to be prompted to take a first action when the first user enters a first of the identified one or more merchants in a vicinity of the first user's first physical location; receiving from the mobile device of the first user information scanned from a first item; identifying information related to the first item based at least in part on the received scanned information; providing to the first user, via the application installed on the mobile device of the first user, the identified information related to the first item from which the information was scanned; and enabling the first user to post on a social networking site an indication that the first user has purchased at least one item.

26. The non-transitory memory as defined in claim 24 , wherein identifying one or more merchants in a vicinity of the first user's first physical location further comprises identifying one or more merchants within 30 meters of the first user's first physical location.
