1. A method for opening a file in a folder, comprising: displaying a folder icon on a screen of a terminal device, wherein the folder icon corresponds to a folder containing a first application icon corresponding to a first application and a second application icon corresponding to a second application, the first application icon being displayed in a first display area of the folder icon, the second application icon being displayed in a second display area of the folder icon, and wherein a first size of the first application icon is relatively greater than a second size of the second application icon; detecting available space around a user interface position on which the folder icon is located, wherein detecting the available space includes detecting available space on two sides of a landscape orientation or a portrait orientation of a user interface position on which the folder icon is located; extending the folder icon toward the available space when the detected available space is greater than or equal to a set threshold, wherein an extended icon area of the folder comprises the first display area; displaying, in the first display area, the first application icon; in response to obtaining a first touch input performed on the first display area of the folder icon, opening the first application; and in response to obtaining a second touch input performed on the second display area of the folder icon, opening the folder and displaying the first application icon and the second application icon on the screen of the terminal device.

2. The method according to claim 1, wherein the folder comprises a third application icon corresponding to a third application, and the third application icon being displayed in the second display area of the folder icon.

The method according to claim 1, wherein the extending the folder icon toward the available space when the detected available space is greater than or equal to a set threshold comprises: when the detected available space is greater than or equal to the set threshold, determining whether the folder comprises the first application icon; and if it is determined that the folder comprises the first application icon, extending the folder icon toward the available space.

The method according to claim 1, wherein before the detecting available space around a user interface position on which the folder icon is located, the method further comprises: obtaining an operation that is used to extend the folder icon; and wherein the detecting available space around a user interface position on which the folder icon is located comprises: detecting, according to the operation that is used to extend the folder icon, the available space around the user interface position on which the folder icon is located.

A terminal, comprising: a touch screen; at least one processor; and a non-transitory computer-readable storage medium coupled to the at least one processor and storing programming instructions for execution by the at least one processor, the programming instructions instruct the at least one processor to perform operations comprising: displaying a folder icon on the touch screen of the terminal, wherein the folder icon corresponds to a folder containing a first application icon corresponding to a first application and a second application icon corresponding to a second application, the first application icon being displayed in a first display area of the folder icon, the second application icon being displayed in a second display area of the folder icon, and wherein a first size of the first application icon is relatively greater than a second size of the second application icon; detecting available space around a user interface position on which the folder icon is located, wherein detecting the available space includes detecting available space on two sides of a landscape orientation or a portrait orientation of a user interface position on which the folder icon is located; extending the folder icon toward the available space when the detected available space is greater than or equal to a set threshold, wherein an extended icon area of the folder comprises the first display area; displaying, in the first display area, the first application icon; in response to obtaining a first touch input performed on the first display area of the folder icon, opening the first application; and in response to obtaining a second touch input performed on the second display area of the folder icon, opening the folder and displaying the first application icon and the second application icon on the touch screen of the terminal.

The terminal according to claim 5, wherein the extending the folder icon toward the available space when the detected available space is greater than or equal to a set threshold comprises: when the detected available space is greater than or equal to the set threshold, determining whether the folder comprises the first application icon; and if it is determined that the folder comprises the first application icon, extending the folder icon toward the available space.

The terminal according to claim 5, wherein the operations comprise: obtaining an operation that is used to extend the folder icon; and wherein the detecting available space around a user interface position on which the folder icon is located comprises: detecting, according to the operation that is used to extend the folder icon, the available space around the user interface position on which the folder icon is located.

8. The terminal according to claim 5, wherein the folder contains a third application icon corresponding to a third application, and the third application icon being displayed in the second display area of the folder icon.

A method for opening a file in a folder comprising: displaying, by a terminal device, a folder icon on a screen of the terminal device, wherein the folder icon corresponds to a folder containing a first application icon corresponding to a first application and a second application icon corresponding to a second application, the first application icon being displayed in a first display area of the folder icon, the second application icon being displayed in a second display area of the folder icon, and wherein a first size of the first application icon displayed in the first display area is relatively greater than a second size of the second application icon displayed in the second display area; in response to obtaining a first touch input performed on the first display area of the folder icon, opening, by the terminal device, the first application; and in response to obtaining a second touch input performed on the second display area of the folder icon, opening, by the terminal device, the folder and displaying the first application icon and the second application icon on the screen of the terminal device; wherein the method further comprises: obtaining, by the terminal device, a first operation for extending the displayed folder icon on the screen of the terminal; detecting, by the terminal device, available space around a user interface position corresponding to the folder icon, wherein detecting the available space includes detecting available space on at least one side of a landscape orientation or a portrait orientation of a user interface position on which the folder icon is located; extending, by the terminal device, the folder icon toward the available space based on having detected the available space, wherein the extended folder icon comprises the first display area, the second display area, and an extended display area; and displaying, by the terminal device, the first application icon in the first display area and a third application icon corresponding to a third application in the extended display area.

The method according to claim 9, further comprising: displaying a second folder icon on the screen of the terminal device, wherein the second folder icon corresponds to a second folder containing a fourth application icon of a fourth application, a fifth application icon of a fifth application, and a plurality of thumbnail icons, wherein the plurality of thumbnail icons are displayed in a thumbnail display area of the second folder icon.

11. The method according to claim 9, wherein the first application is a most frequently used application or a recently used application.

The method according to claim 9, further comprising: selecting, according to a first condition, a fourth application icon of a fourth application from the folder; displaying the fourth application icon on the first display area of the folder; and in response to a second operation performed on the fourth application icon displayed in the first display area, opening, by the terminal device, the fourth application.

13. The method according to claim 12, wherein the first condition comprises frequency of usage of the fourth application.

14. The method according to claim 9, further comprising: displaying a second folder icon, wherein the second folder icon only comprises a plurality of thumbnail icons.

15. The method according to claim 9, wherein the first application icon and the second application icon are displayed according to respective priorities of the first and second application icons.

16. The method according to claim 9, wherein the first application icon is selected to be displayed in the first display area of the folder icon based on the first application being a most frequently used application of the folder.

A terminal device, comprising: at least one processor; and a non-transitory memory coupled to the at least one processor and having processor- executable instructions stored thereon wherein the processor-executable instructions when executed by the at least one processor cause the terminal device to perform operations comprising: displaying a folder icon on a screen of the terminal device, wherein the folder icon corresponds to a folder containing a first application icon corresponding to a first application and a second application icon corresponding to a second application the first application icon being displayed in a first display area of the folder icon the second application icon being displayed in a second display area of the folder icon and wherein a first size of the first application icon displayed in the first display area is relatively greater than a second size of the second application icon displayed in the second display area; in response to obtaining a first touch input performed on the first display area of the folder icon, opening the first application; and in response to obtaining a second touch input performed on the second display area of the folder icon opening the folder and displaying the first application icon and the second application icon on the screen of the terminal device; wherein the operations further comprise: obtaining a first operation for extending the displayed folder icon on the screen of the terminal; detecting available space around a user interface position corresponding to the folder icon wherein detecting the available space includes detecting available space on at least one side of a landscape orientation or a portrait orientation of a user interface position on which the folder icon is located; extending the folder icon toward the available space based on having detected the available space wherein the extended folder icon comprises the first display area the second display area and an extended display area; and displaying the first application icon in the first display area and a third application icon corresponding to a third application in the extended display area.

The terminal device according to claim 17, wherein the operations further comprise: displaying a second folder icon on the screen of the terminal device wherein the second folder icon corresponds to a second folder containing a fourth application icon of a fourth application a fifth application icon of a fifth application and a plurality of thumbnail icons wherein the plurality of thumbnail icons are displayed in a thumbnail display area of the second folder icon.

19. The terminal device according to claim 17, wherein the first application is a most frequently used application or a recently used application.

The terminal device according to claim 17, wherein the operations further comprise: selecting, according to a first condition, a fourth application icon of a fourth application from the folder; displaying the fourth application icon on the first display area of the folder; and in response to a second operation performed on the fourth application icon displayed in the first display area opening by the terminal device the fourth application.

21. The terminal device according to claim 20, wherein the first condition comprises frequency of usage of the fourth application.

22. The terminal device according to claim 17, wherein the operations further comprise: displaying a second folder icon wherein the second folder icon only comprises a plurality of thumbnail icons.

A non-transitory computer-readable medium having processor-executable instructions stored thereon wherein the processor-executable instructions when executed facilitate; displaying, by a terminal device, a folder icon on a screen of the terminal device, wherein the folder icon corresponds to a folder containing a first application icon corresponding to a first application and a second application icon corresponding to a second application the first application icon being displayed in a first display area of the folder icon the second application icon being displayed in a second display area of the folder icon and wherein a first size of the first application icon displayed in the first display area is relatively greater than a second size of the second application icon displayed in the second display area; in response to obtaining a first touch input performed on the first display area of the folder icon, opening, by the terminal device, the first application; and in response to obtaining a second touch input performed on the second display area of the folder icon opening by the terminal device the folder and displaying the first application icon and the second application icon on the screen of the terminal device; wherein the processor-executable instructions when executed further facilitate; obtaining by the terminal device a first operation for extending the displayed folder icon on the screen of the terminal; detecting, by the terminal device, available space around a user interface position corresponding to the folder icon wherein detecting the available space includes detecting available space on at least one side of a landscape orientation or a portrait orientation of a user interface position on which the folder icon is located; extending by the terminal device the folder icon toward the available space based on having detected the available space wherein the extended folder icon comprises the first display area the second display area and an extended display area; and displaying, by the terminal device the first application icon in the first display area and a third application icon corresponding to a third application in the extended display area.

The non-transitory computer-readable medium according to claim 25, wherein the processor-executable instructions when executed further facilitate; displaying a second folder icon on the screen of the terminal device wherein the second folder icon corresponds to a second folder containing a fourth application icon of a fourth application a fifth application icon of a fifth application and a plurality of thumbnail icons wherein the plurality of thumbnail icons are displayed in a thumbnail display area of the second folder icon.

27. The non-transitory computer-readable medium according to claim 25, wherein the first application is a most frequently used application or a recently used application.

The non-transitory computer-readable medium according to claim 25, wherein the processor-executable instructions when executed further facilitate; selecting according to a first condition a fourth application icon of a fourth application from the folder; displaying the fourth application icon on the first display area of the folder; and in response to a second operation performed on the fourth application icon displayed in the first display area, opening, by the terminal device, the fourth application.

29. The non-transitory computer-readable medium according to claim 28, wherein the first condition comprises frequency of usage of the fourth application.

30. The non-transitory computer-readable medium according to claim 25, wherein the processor-executable instructions when executed further facilitate; displaying a second folder icon, wherein the second folder icon only comprises a second plurality of thumbnail icons.

31. The non-transitory computer-readable medium according to claim 25, wherein the first application icon and the second application icon are displayed according to respective priorities of the first and second application icons.
