Technical Abstract

A mobile device is used as an input/output device for a player tracking system for gaming machines, such as slot machines. Each gaming machine has a unique identifier and each player has a unique identifier that is associated with an account of the player. Player credentials are electronically communicated via the mobile device directly to the player tracking system, and each player credential is associated with a player's unique identifier that is maintained by the player tracking system. The mobile device is also used to electronically communicate directly to the player tracking system a gaming machine that the player wishes to play. Prior to initiation of game play on a gaming machine, the player tracking system associates the unique identifier of a player with the unique identifier of a gaming machine that the player wishes to play. A play session is initiated at the gaming machine and game play at the gaming machine is associated with the account of the player, and activity from the play session is captured by the player tracking system. Information is displayed on a display screen of the mobile device during the play session, including data regarding the player that is maintained in the player tracking system.

1. A method of using a mobile device as an input/output device for a player tracking system for gaming machines, each gaming machine having a unique identifier, each player having a unique identifier that is associated with an account of the player, the mobile device including (i) an application, and (ii) a unique device identifier, the method comprising: (a) maintaining a data table of player information in the player tracking system that includes: (i) player credentials, wherein one of the player credentials is a unique device identifier, and (ii) each of the player's unique identifier, each of the player's unique identifier being associated with one of the player credentials; (b) electronically communicating, via the mobile device, the unique device identifier of the mobile device directly to the player tracking system, (c) electronically associating in the player tracking system, using the data table, the unique device identifier of the mobile device with the respective player's unique identifier; (d) electronically communicating directly to the player tracking system, using the mobile device, a gaming machine that the player wishes to play; (e) prior to initiation of game play on a gaming machine, the player tracking system associating the unique identifier of a player, as determined using the data table, with the unique identifier of a gaming machine that the player wishes to play; (f) initiating a play session at the gaming machine and associating game play at the gaming machine with the account of the player, wherein activity from the play session is captured by the player tracking system; (g) electronically communicating information from the player tracking system directly to the mobile device, the information including data regarding the player that is maintained in the player tracking system; and (h) displaying the information on a display screen of the mobile device, wherein steps (b), (d) and (h) are performed using the application executing on the mobile device.

2

2. The method of claim 1 wherein steps (g) and (h) are performed during game play.

3

3. The method of claim 1 wherein the gaming machine is a slot machine.

4

4. The method of claim 1 wherein the application is a mobile app.

5

5. The method of claim 1 wherein the application is a browser-based application.

6

6. The method of claim 1 wherein the unique device identifier is automatically detected, thereby allowing the mobile device to be associated with a respective unique identifier of a player without any user input into the mobile device.

7

7. The method of claim 1 wherein the player credentials further include a unique username and password combination, each unique username and password combination being associated with a respective player's unique identifier, the method further comprising: (i) prompting the player, via the application executing on the mobile device, to enter their unique username and password into the mobile device when the unique device identifier of the mobile device cannot be associated with a respective unique identifier of a player, wherein the entered unique username and password combination is used to associate the mobile device with the respective player's unique identifier.

8

8. The method of claim 1 wherein the player credentials further include a unique player number and PIN combination, each unique player number and PIN combination being associated with a respective player's unique identifier, the method further comprising: (i) prompting the player, via the application executing on the mobile device, to enter their unique player number and PIN combination into the mobile device when the unique device identifier of the mobile device cannot be associated with a respective unique identifier of a player, wherein the entered unique player number and PIN combination is used to associate the mobile device with the respective player's unique identifier.

9

9. The method of claim 1 wherein the player credentials further include a password or PIN, each password or PIN being associated with a respective player's unique identifier, the method further comprising: (i) prompting the player, via the application executing on the mobile device, to enter their password or PIN into the mobile device after the unique device identifier of the mobile device is associated with a respective unique identifier of a player, wherein the entered password or PIN is used to further verify that the mobile device is associated with a correctly matched up player's unique identifier.
