Systems and methods are described to address deficiencies in conventional biometric devices by dynamically enabling and disabling a biometric device based on the content the user is viewing. The media guidance application may utilize a device enablement rule, which has content criteria. If the content criteria is satisfied, the media guidance application may enable or disable a biometric device in accordance with the device enablement rule.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein acquiring the biometric information of the user occurs at a first progression point of the content, further comprising: retrieving an average biometric response of a plurality of users to the content being accessed at the first progression point; determining whether the biometric information of the user corresponds to the average biometric response; in response to determining that the biometric information of the user corresponds to the average biometric response, selecting as the content recommendation, a media asset indicated in a profile associated with at least one user of the plurality of users.
9. The method of claim 8 , further comprising: in response to determining that the biometric information of the user does not correspond to the average biometric response, identifying a potential disorder related to an atypical biometric response to content that matches the content criteria; and alerting another user associated with the user about the potential disorder of the user.
10. A system for recommending content based on biometric information, the system comprising: control circuitry configured to: identify content being consumed by a user on user equipment; determine a content type of the content; select, from a plurality of device enablement rules, a device enablement rule that corresponds to the content type, wherein the device enablement rule comprises content criteria for acquiring the biometric information; determine whether the content satisfies the content criteria of the device enablement rule; in response to determining that the content satisfies the content criteria: acquire, from a biometric device, the biometric information of the user; generate, for display on the user equipment, a content recommendation based on the biometric information, wherein to generate, for display on the user equipment, the content recommendation based on the biometric information the control circuitry is configured to: determine that the biometric information of the user is of a first response level; retrieve additional biometric information of the user from memory, wherein the additional biometric information is of a second response level different from the first response level; identify a media asset that triggered a biometric response of the second response level; and select the media asset as the content recommendation.
11. The system of claim 10 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to determine that the biometric information of the user does not match an expected biometric response for the content, and wherein the content recommendation is based on the determination that the biometric information does not match the expected biometric response.
12. The system of claim 10 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to cease acquisition of the biometric information when the content fails to satisfy the content criteria.
13. The system of claim 10 , wherein to determine whether the content satisfies the content criteria of the device enablement rule the control circuitry is further configured to: search a social network based on an identifier of the content to identify a plurality of communications associated with the content; identify a number of the communications that were received by the social network within a threshold period of time of a progression point of the content; determine whether the number of the communications exceeds a minimum number of communications indicative of popularity; and in response to the determination that the number of the communications exceeds the minimum number of communications, determine that a portion of the content corresponding to the progression point of the content satisfies the content criteria of the device enablement rule.
