Technical Abstract

A technique relating to resource configuration in a wireless communication network. A terminal device in the wireless communication network receives information about supplemental resource from a source cell. Then the terminal device determines a time interval, in which the supplemental resource is available to the terminal device, in a transition period of a handover from the source cell to a target cell based on a timer associated with a random access procedure in the handover. In this way, the terminal device may use the supplemental resource during the handover.

A method implemented at a terminal device for use in a wireless communication network, comprising: receiving information about a supplemental resource from a source cell of the wireless communication network; and determining a time interval in a portion of a transition period of a handover of the terminal device from the source cell to a target cell, in which the supplemental resource is available to the terminal device during the time interval, wherein a first timer and the time interval commence at a receiving of a connection reconfiguration message from the source cell, wherein when the first timer expires without the terminal device completing target cell selection, utilizing a second timer to add time to the first timer to continue the time interval for target cell selection, and wherein the time interval ends upon successful target cell selection or upon expiry of the second timer.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the supplemental resource is for use in device-to-device communication during handover of the terminal device from the source cell to the target cell.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the first timer is T 304 .

The method of claim 2 further comprising determining a second time interval commencing upon unsuccessful target cell selection at the expiry of the second timer, in which a new resource for use in device-to-device communication is made available to the terminal device, wherein the second time interval expires upon expiry of a third timer.

6. The method of claim 5 , wherein the third timer is T 301 .

7. The method of claim 5 , wherein the first timer is T 302 , the second timer is T 311 , and the third timer is T 301 .

8. The method of claim 5 , further comprising receiving information about the new resource from the target cell of the wireless communication network.

An apparatus implemented at a terminal device for use in a wireless communication network, comprising: a receiver configured to receive information about a supplemental resource from a source cell of the wireless communication network; and a controller configured to determine a time interval in a portion of a transition period of a handover of the terminal device from the source cell to a target cell, in which the supplemental resource is available to the terminal device during the time interval, wherein a first timer and the time interval commence at a receiving of a connection reconfiguration message from the source cell, wherein when the first timer expires without the terminal device completing target cell selection, utilize a second timer to add time to the first timer to continue the time interval for target cell selection, and wherein the time interval ends upon successful target cell selection or upon expiry of the second timer.

10. The apparatus of claim 9 , wherein the supplemental resource is for use in device-to-device communication during handover of the terminal device from the source cell to the target cell.

11. The apparatus of claim 10 , wherein the first timer is T 304 and the second timer is T 311 .

The apparatus of claim 10 , wherein the receiver further determines a second time interval commencing upon unsuccessful target cell selection at the expiry of the second timer, in which a new resource for use in device-to-device communication is made available to the terminal device, wherein the second time interval expires upon expiry of a third timer.

13. The apparatus of claim 12 , wherein the first timer is T 302 , the second timer is T 311 , and the third timer is T 301 .

14. The apparatus of claim 12 , wherein the controller further receives information about the new resource from the target cell of the wireless communication network.

A method implemented at a network device in a wireless communication network, comprising: preparing for transmission to a terminal device, information about a supplemental resource for use by the terminal device during a handover of the terminal device from a source cell to a target cell, the information including a time interval in a portion of a transition period of the handover, in which the supplemental resource is available to the terminal device during the time interval, wherein a first timer and the time interval commence at a receiving of a connection reconfiguration message from the source cell by the terminal device, wherein when the first timer expires without the terminal device completing target cell selection, utilizing a second timer to add time to the first timer to continue the time interval for target cell selection at the terminal device, and wherein the time interval ends upon successful target cell selection by the terminal device or upon expiry of the second timer; and sending the information to the terminal device by the source cell.

The method of claim 15 further comprising sending information about a second time interval to commence upon unsuccessful target cell selection by the terminal device at the expiry of the second timer, in which a new resource for use in device-to-device communication is made available to the terminal device, wherein the second time interval expires upon expiry of a third timer.

17. The method of claim 16 , wherein the first timer is T 302 , the second timer is T 311 , and the third timer is T 301 .

An apparatus implemented at a network device in a wireless communication network, comprising: a controller configured to cause a transmission of information to a terminal device, the information about a supplemental resource for use by the terminal device during a handover of the terminal device from a source cell to a target cell, the information including a time interval in a portion of a transition period of the handover, in which the supplemental resource is available to the terminal device during the time interval, wherein a first timer and the time interval commence at a receiving of a connection reconfiguration message from the source cell by the terminal device, wherein when the first timer expires without the terminal device completing target cell selection, utilizing a second timer to add time to the first timer to continue the time interval for target cell selection at the terminal device, and wherein the time interval ends upon successful target cell selection by the terminal device or upon expiry of the second timer.

The apparatus of claim 18 , wherein the controller further causes a transmission of information about a second time interval commencing upon unsuccessful target cell selection by the terminal device at the expiry of the second timer, in which a new resource for use in device-to-device communication is made available to the terminal device, wherein the second time interval expires upon expiry of a third timer.

20. The apparatus of claim 19 , wherein the first timer is T 302 , the second timer is T 311 , and the third timer is T 301 .
