Technical Abstract

A system and method for a procedure that can be performed on an appropriate subject. Procedures can include assembling any appropriate work piece or installing members into a work piece, such as an airframe, autoframe, etc. Regardless of the subject, generally the procedure can have a selected result that is efficacious. The efficacious result may be the desired placement of a device. The system and method can be used in confirming an efficacious result.

1

1. A method of identifying a position of a member with image data acquired with an imaging device, comprising: acquiring confirmation image data of the portion of interest after a member is placed in a subject; registering prior image data to the confirmation image data, wherein registering the prior image data to the confirmation image data comprises: extracting a first feature from the prior image data; extracting the first feature from the confirmation image data; and determining a position of the member within the acquired confirmation image data; recalling a model of the placed member; recalling a prior image data of the subject including the portion of interest; superimposing a graphical representation representing the member based at least on the recalled model of the placed member on an image model generated with recalled prior image data; and displaying the image model with the superimposed graphical representation.

2

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: acquiring the prior acquired image data prior to the confirmation image data.

3

3. The method of claim 2 , further comprising: determining a position of the member in the confirmation image data; and determining a position of the graphical representation based upon the determined position of the member in the confirmation image data.

4

4. The method of claim 3 , further comprising: tracking the member prior to acquiring the confirmation image data; and evaluating the tracked position of the member relative to the confirmation image data to at least assist in determining the position of the member in the confirmation image data.

5

5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: mapping the position of the member in the prior image data.

6

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein registering the prior image data to the confirmation image data comprises: recalling a first position of an imaging system during acquisition of the prior image data; comparing the recalled first position to a second position of the imaging device during acquisition of the confirmation image data.

7

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein both the prior image data and the confirmation image data each include a plurality of projections, wherein each of the plurality of projections is at a different position of the detector.

8

8. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: acquiring a test image of the subject to determine at least one position of acquiring the confirmation image data.

9

9. The method of claim 8 , wherein acquiring the test image of the subject includes acquiring a first test image at a first position and a second test image at a second position.

10

10. A system to identify a position of a member with image data acquired with an imaging device, comprising: a processor system configured to execute instructions to: evaluate a confirmation image data of a portion of interest of a subject acquired with the imaging device, recall a model of the member; and determine a position of the member based on the confirmation image data of the portion of interest of the subject; recalling a prior image data of the subject including the portion of interest; register the prior image data to the confirmation image data, extract a first feature from the prior image data; extract the first feature from the confirmation image data; and match the first feature in between the prior image data and the confirmation image data; wherein the registration of the prior image to the confirmation image data is based at least on the matching of the first feature between the prior image data and the confirmation image data; determine a position to superimpose a graphical representation representing the member based at least on the recalled model of the member on an image model generated with the recalled prior image data; and a display device configured to display the graphical representation representing the member superimposed on the image model; wherein the prior image data is acquired prior to the confirmation image data; wherein the image model is based at least on the prior image data.

11

11. The system of claim 10 , further comprising: an imaging device configured to be moved to a selected position relative to a portion of interest of a subject and acquire the confirmation image data of the portion of interest of the subject.

12

12. The system of claim 11 , further comprising: the member configured to be imaged with the imaging device at the portion of interest in the subject.

13

13. The system of claim 10 , further comprising: a tracking system configured to track a first tracking device associated with the imaging device and a second tracking device associated with the member; wherein the processor system is configured to execute further instructions to evaluate the tracked position of the member relative to the confirmation image data to at least assist in determining the position of the member in the confirmation image data.
