Provided are an image display apparatus and a method of controlling the same. The image display apparatus enabling voice recognition includes: a first voice inputter which receives a user-side audio signal; an audio outputter which outputs an audio signal processed by the image display apparatus; a first voice recognizer which recognizes the user-side audio signal received through the first voice inputter; and a controller which decreases a volume of the audio signal output through the audio outputter to a predetermined level if a voice recognition start command is received.
Legal claims defining the scope of protection, as filed with the USPTO.

2. The display apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the controller is configured to: based on the candidate command word being suitable for the command word according to the determination, display, on the display, a message which indicates the candidate command word being suitable, and based on the candidate command word not being suitable for the command word according to the determination, display, on the display, a message which indicates the candidate command word not being suitable.
3. The display apparatus according to claim 2 , wherein, when a plurality of candidate command words from the user-side audio are received through the microphone, the controller is configured to register a candidate command word from among the plurality of candidate command words selected by the user as the command word for the execution of the function of the display apparatus.
4. The display apparatus according to claim 2 , wherein, in response to a user interface (UI) item for registering the command word for the execution of the function of the display apparatus being selected by the user, the controller is configured to receive the user-side audio through the microphone.
5. The display apparatus according to claim 4 , wherein, in response to the UI item being selected by the user, the controller is configured to display, on the display, a screen requesting an utterance for registering the command word and obtain the candidate command word from the user-side audio during displaying the screen requesting the utterance.
6. The display apparatus according to claim 2 , further comprising audio output unit to output an audio, wherein in response to a speech recognition function being executed, the controller is configured to decrease an output volume output by the audio output unit.
7. The display apparatus according to claim 6 , wherein in response to deactivating the speech recognition function, the controller is configured to restore the output volume to a volume level set before the speech recognition function executed.
8. The display apparatus according to claim 1 , the controller is configured to identify whether the candidate command word is suitable for the command word according to a voice recognition rate of the candidate command word.
9. The display apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein, when a plurality of candidate command words are obtained based on the user-side audio received through the microphone, the controller is configured to register a candidate command word from among the plurality of candidate command words selected by the user as the command word for the execution of the function of the display apparatus.
10. The display apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the controller is configured to display, on the display, a message requesting the candidate command word for registering the command word for the execution of the function of the display apparatus.
11. A method of controlling a display apparatus, the method comprising: displaying a content; obtaining a candidate command word from a first user-side audio received through a microphone, which receives a user-side audio, to register a command word for an execution of a function of the display apparatus; determining whether the candidate command word is suitable for the command word according to a predetermined criterion; based on the candidate command word being suitable for the command word according to the determination, display, on the display, a first screen for registering the candidate command word as the command word and register the candidate command word as the command word; based on the candidate command word not being suitable for the command word according to the determination, display, on the display, a second screen for indicating that the candidate command word is not suitable and receive a second user-side audio through the microphone to obtain another candidate command word to register the command word for the execution of the function of the display apparatus; and based on the registered command word being obtained from a third user-side audio received through the microphone after the candidate command word is registered as the command word, executing the function.
12. The method according to claim 11 , further comprising: based on the candidate command word being suitable for the command word according to the determination, displaying a message which indicates the candidate command word being registrable; and based on the candidate command word not being suitable for the command word according to the determination, displaying a message which indicates the candidate command word not being registrable.
13. The method according to claim 12 , further comprising: when a plurality of candidate command words from the user-side audio are received through the microphone, registering a candidate command word among the plurality of candidate command words selected by the user from as the command word for the execution of the function of the display apparatus.
14. The method according to claim 12 , further comprising: in response to a user interface (UI) item for registering the command word for the execution of the function of the display apparatus being selected by the user, receiving the user- side audio through the microphone.
15. The method according to claim 14 , further comprising: identifying whether the candidate command word is suitable for the command word according to a voice recognition rate of the candidate command word.
16. The method according to claim 12 , wherein further comprising: in response to a speech recognition function being executed, decreasing an output volume of an audio output unit.
17. The method according to claim 16 , further comprising: in response to deactivating the speech recognition function, restoring the output volume to a volume level set before the speech recognition function executed.
18. The method according to claim 11 , further comprising: identifying whether the candidate command word is suitable for the command word according to a voice recognition rate of the candidate command word.
19. The method according to claim 11 , further comprising: when a plurality of candidate command words are obtained based on the user-side audio received through the microphone, registering a candidate command word from among the plurality of candidate command words selected by the user as the command word for the execution of the function of the display apparatus.
20. The method according to claim 11 , further comprising displaying a message requesting the candidate command word for registering the command word for an execution of the function of the display apparatus.
