Legal claims defining the scope of protection, as filed with the USPTO.

1

1. A battery electrode comprising: at least one active material layer containing a nano-particle sized metal oxide in a range of 20% to 40% by weight; and at least one conductive layer containing carbon nano-particles in the range of 20% to 40% by weight; wherein the metal oxide provides a lithiation capacity of at least 4000 mAhr/g.

2

2. The battery electrode of claim 1 , wherein the at least one active material layer contains the nano-particle sized metal oxide in a range of 20% to 25% by weight.

3

3. The battery electrode of claim 1 , wherein the at least one active material layer contains the nano-particle sized metal oxide at about 21% weight.

4

4. The battery electrode of claim 1 , wherein the at least one active material layer containing a nano-particle sized metal oxide in a range of 20% to 40% by weight comprises a plurality of active material layers containing the nano-particle sized metal oxide in a range of 20% to 40% by weight.

5

5. The battery electrode of claim 4 , wherein the at least one conductive layer containing carbon nano-particles in the range of 20% to 40% by weight comprises a plurality of conductive layers containing carbon nano-particles in a range of 20% to 40% by weight.

6

6. The battery electrode of claim 5 , wherein the active material layers each comprise nano-particle sized metal oxides in a range of 20-25% by weight, and wherein the conductive layers each comprise carbon nano-particles in a range of 20-25% by weight.

7

7. The battery electrode of claim 6 , wherein the active material layers each comprise nano-particle sized metal oxides at about 21% by weight, and wherein the conductive layers each comprise carbon nano-particles at about 21% by weight.

8

8. The battery electrode of claim 1 , wherein the metal oxides are monodispersed.

9

9. The battery electrode of claim 1 , wherein the metal oxide is not an acidified metal oxide.

10

10. The battery electrode of claim 1 , wherein the metal oxide comprises tin oxide.

11

11. The battery electrode of claim 1 , wherein the metal oxide comprises titanium dioxide.

12

12. The battery electrode of claim 1 , wherein the metal oxide comprises iron oxide.
