Embodiments are disclosed herein that relate to facilitating the discovery of authenticated content from a variety of sources. One embodiment provides a method comprising receiving a plurality of authentication tokens from the media presentation device, where each of the plurality of authentication tokens represents an established authenticated relationship between a user and a corresponding content source. The method further comprises receiving a request from the media presentation device for an electronic programming guide and sending the electronic programming guide to the media presentation device, where the electronic programming guide comprises a listing of content from a plurality of content sources corresponding to the plurality of authentication tokens.
Legal claims defining the scope of protection, as filed with the USPTO.
1. A media presentation device, comprising: a logic subsystem; and a data-holding subsystem holding instructions executable by the logic subsystem to: communicate with a plurality of content sources with which a user has registered via one or more online accounts to establish authenticated relationships with the plurality of content sources; in response, receive, for each authenticated relationship, authentication information representing the authenticated relationship; send device registration information to a federated identity service to register the media presentation device with the federated identity service; send a request to the federated identity service for an electronic programming guide; and receive the electronic programming guide from the federated identity service, the electronic programming guide comprising a listing of content sources corresponding to the authentication information.
2. The media presentation device of claim 1 , wherein the instructions are further executable to send, to the federated identity service, information about one or more of: the media presentation device, the user of the media presentation device, or the content source from which the authentication information was received.
3. The media presentation device of claim 2 , wherein the instructions are further executable to receive advertising content based on the information sent to the federated identity service.
4. The media presentation device of claim 1 , wherein the instructions are further executable to send additional authentication information to the federated identity service and receive an updated electronic programming guide, the updated programming guide comprising a listing of an additional content source corresponding to the additional authentication information.
5. The media presentation device of claim 1 , wherein the media presentation device is communicationally coupled to a television to display content from the content sources on the television.
6. The media presentation device of claim 1 , wherein the electronic programming guide comprises a further listing of additional content sources corresponding to information received from a second media presentation device that has also registered with the federated identity service.
7. The media presentation device of claim 6 , wherein the user previously utilized the second media presentation device to communicate with the additional content sources.
8. The media presentation device of claim 1 , wherein the registration of the media presentation device with the federated identity service associates the media presentation device with the user.
9. On a media presentation device comprising a logic subsystem and a data-holding subsystem, a method implemented via execution, by the logic subsystem, of instructions stored in the data-holding subsystem, the method comprising: communicating with a plurality of content sources with which a user has registered via one or more online accounts to establish authenticated relationships with the plurality of content sources; in response, receiving, for each authenticated relationship, authentication information representing the authenticated relationship; sending device registration information to a federated identity service to register the media presentation device with the federated identity service; sending a request to the federated identity service for an electronic programming guide; and receiving the electronic programming guide from the federated identity service, the electronic programming guide comprising a listing of content sources corresponding to the authentication information.
10. The method of claim 9 , further comprising sending additional authentication information to the federated identity service and receiving an updated electronic programming guide, the updated programming guide comprising a listing of an additional content source corresponding to the additional authentication information.
11. The method of claim 9 , further comprising: sending, to the federated identity service, information about one or more of: the media presentation device, the user of the media presentation device, or the content source from which the authentication information was received.
12. The method of claim 9 , wherein the electronic programming guide comprises a further listing of additional content sources corresponding to information received from a second media presentation device that has also registered with the federated identity service.
13. The method of claim 12 , wherein the user has utilized the second media presentation device to communicate with the additional content sources.
14. The method of claim 9 , wherein the registration of the media presentation device with the federated identity service associates the media presentation device with the user.
15. A computer-readable storage device comprising stored instructions executable by a logic subsystem of a media presentation device to: communicate with a plurality of content sources with which a user has registered via one or more online accounts to establish authenticated relationships with the plurality of content sources; in response, receive, for each authenticated relationship, authentication information representing the authenticated relationship; send device registration information to a federated identity service to register the media presentation device with the federated identity service; send a request to the federated identity service for an electronic programming guide; and receive the electronic programming guide from the federated identity service, the electronic programming guide comprising a listing of content sources corresponding to the authentication information.
16. The computer-readable storage device of claim 15 , wherein the instructions are further executable to send, to the federated identity service, information about one or more of: the media presentation device, the user of the media presentation device, or the content source from which the authentication information was received.
17. The computer-readable storage device of claim 16 , wherein the instructions are further executable to receive, at the media presentation device, advertising content based on the information sent to the federated identity service.
18. The computer-readable storage device of claim 15 , wherein the electronic programming guide comprises a further listing of additional content sources corresponding to information received from a second media presentation device that has also registered with the federated identity service.
19. The computer-readable storage device of claim 18 , wherein the user previously utilized the second media presentation device to communicate with the additional content sources.
20. The computer-readable storage device of claim 15 , wherein the registration of the media presentation device with the federated identity service associates the media presentation device with the user.
