Technical Abstract

A system for automated horseshoeing. The system is a three cell concept generally including a tool change area, a gluing area and a modification area. The system generally include a platform for a horse to stand thereon wherein all working components are contained below. The system is configured so that a horse can stand on said platform and the working components move from hoof to hoof thereby allowing the horse to remain in a neutral standing position during the entire shoeing process without having to bend its ankle. The automated horseshoeing process of the present specification is entirely monitored by a farrier.

1

1. An automated shoeing apparatus configured to perform a shoeing process to automatically measure, size, adjust, and attach a shoe to a hooved animal having a foot and a corresponding hoof, the apparatus comprising: a platform, a plurality of cells positioned below the platform, the platform configured to allow the hooved animal to stand thereon, the platform having an aperture allowing for the foot of the hooved animal to make contact with the plurality of cells positioned below the platform; the plurality of cells comprising: a first cell configured to adjust the shape of the hoof of the hooved animal, the first cell having a 3D image generator to capture a 3D image of the hoof, a processor then is configured to determine an amount of hoof material to remove based on the 3D image; a second cell configured to perform a modification of the shoe to modify the shoe based on the 3D image generated in the first cell; and a third cell configured to automatically attach the shoe from the second cell to the hoof of the animal; wherein the automated shoeing apparatus is configured so that the hooved animal can stand on said platform and the cells move from hoof to hoof, thereby allowing the hooved animal to remain in a neutral standing position during an entirety of the shoeing process without having to bend its ankle.

2

2. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein a rotating grinding apparatus is used to adjust the shape of the animal's hoof in accordance with the 3D image.

3

3. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the apparatus includes breakaway supports to support the ankle of the hooved animal during the shoeing process, the breakaway supports configured to allow the breakaway supports to be broken away if the animal is uncomfortable.

4

4. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein at least a portion of the platform is configured to expose one of the plurality of cells to the hooved animal standing on the platform.

5

5. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the cells are configured to automatically move to each hoof of the animal.

6

6. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the 3D image generator is configured to look internally in the ankle, hoof, leg and foot of the animal, the apparatus configured to make adjustments to the hoof and/or the shoe to adjust the hoof and/or the shoe based on a finding from the imaging device.

7

7. A shoeing method of operating an automated shoeing apparatus, the method enabling the automated shoeing apparatus to perform a shoeing process to automatically measure, size, adjust, and attach a shoe to a hooved animal having a foot and a corresponding hoof, the shoeing method comprising the steps of: providing the automated shoeing apparatus of claim 1 ; capturing the 3D image of the hoof; determining the amount of hoof material to remove based on the 3D image of the hoof; modifying the shoe based on the 3D image generated in the first cell; and automatically attaching the shoe from the second cell to the hoof of the animal; wherein the method enables the animal to stand on the platform where the cells move from hoof to hoof, thereby allowing the hooved animal to remain in a neutral standing position during an entirety of the shoeing process without having to bend its ankle.

8

8. The method of claim 7 wherein the shoe is modified by means of applying heat to the shoe itself.

9

9. The method of claim 7 wherein the shoe is modified by means of applying pressure to the shoe itself.
