A captured scene captured of a live action scene while a display wall is positioned to be part of the live action scene may be processed. To perform the processing, image data of the live action scene having a live actor and the display wall displaying a first rendering of a precursor image is received. Further, precursor metadata for the precursor image displayed on the display wall and display wall metadata for the display wall is determined. An image matte is accessed, where the image matte indicates a first portion associated with the live actor and a second portion associated with the precursor image on the display wall Image quality levels for display wall portions of the display wall in the image data is determined, and pixels associated with the display wall in the image data are adjusted to the image quality levels.

The computer-implemented method of claim 2, wherein determining, for each of the display wall portions, one of the plurality of image quality levels occurs in real-time during the capture of the live action scene and one of the plurality of image quality levels for the one or more hidden portions is at a lower resolution than another one of the plurality of image quality levels.

The computer-implemented method of claim 2, wherein determining, for each of the display wall portions, one of the plurality of image quality levels occurs at a time after the capture of the live action scene and one of the plurality of image quality levels for the one or more visible portions is at a higher resolution than another one of the plurality of image quality levels.
5. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, wherein one of the plurality of image quality levels for the display wall pixels for the one or more hidden portions is of a lower image quality level than another one of the plurality of image quality levels for the display wall pixels for the one or more visible portions.
6. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, wherein the image matte comprises at least one depth from the at least one camera to at least one of the stage element or the display wall.

The computer-implemented method of claim 1, wherein the plurality of image quality levels comprise a first quality level that is done is real-time while capturing the live action scene and a second quality level that is done after capturing the live action scene, and wherein the second quality level comprises a higher resolution level than the first quality level.
9. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, wherein the at least one camera comprises two cameras stereoscopically oriented in at least two placements and relative to each other when capturing the live action scene, wherein the image data comprises stereoscopic image data, and wherein the plurality of image quality levels for the display wall portions uses the stereoscopic image data.
10. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, wherein the precursor image on the display wall comprises a computer animated background scene having at least one of light projected on the stage element or one or more computer animated objects for interaction with the stage element.
11. A system comprising: at least one processor, and a storage medium storing instructions, which when executed by the at least one processor, cause the system to implement the computer-implemented method of claim 1.
12. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing instructions, which when executed by at least one processor of a computer system, causes the computer system to carry out the computer-implemented method of claim 1.
13. A non-transitory computer-readable medium carrying instructions, which when executed by at least one processor of a computer system, causes the computer system to carry out the computer-implemented method of claim 1.
14. A non-transitory carrier medium carrying data that includes information generated according to the computer-implemented method of claim 1.

The computer system of claim 15, wherein one of the plurality of image quality levels for the display wall pixels for the one or more hidden portions is of a lower image quality level than another one of the plurality of image quality levels for the display wall pixels for the one or more visible portions.
17. The computer system of claim 15, wherein the image matte comprises at least one depth from the at least one camera to at least one of the stage element or the display wall.

The computer system of claim 18, wherein determining, for each of the display wall portions, one of the plurality of image quality levels occurs in real-time during the capture of the live action scene and one of the plurality of image quality levels for the one or more hidden portions is at a lower resolution than another one of the plurality of image quality levels.
20. The computer system of claim 18, wherein determining, for each of the display wall portions, one of the plurality of image quality levels occurs at a time after the capture of the live action scene and one of the plurality of image quality levels for the one or more visible portions is at a higher resolution than another one of the plurality of image quality levels.
