A communication management resource detects or anticipates occurrence of wireless interference on a wireless channel allocated to a wireless base station to communicate with multiple communication devices. In response to the detected wireless interference, the communication management resource determines a group of the multiple communication devices receiving data of a particular type from the wireless base station. To reduce the wireless interference, the wireless base station notifies the communication devices in the group to operate in a device-to-device communication mode as an alternative path of conveying the particular type of data to the group of communication devices. Thus, during times of wireless interference, instead of communicating a message to each of the wireless communication device in the group, the wireless base station communicates a wireless communication to a first communication device in the group; the first communication device forwards the communication to a second communication device in the group.
Legal claims defining the scope of protection, as filed with the USPTO.
2. The method as in claim 1, wherein the wireless channel is allocated for use by the second mobile communication device to communicate with the first wireless base station prior to operation of the first mobile communication device in the device-to-device communication mode.
4. The method as in claim 1, wherein the command indicates to operate in the device-to-device communication mode for a specified duration of time.
5. The method as in claim 1, wherein the command is received in connection information indicating interconnectivity of multiple mobile communication devices, the interconnectivity defining the device-to-device communication mode of conveying communications of the first data type from the first mobile communication device to the second mobile communication device.
6. The method as in claim 1, wherein the wireless channel is allocated from a tiered hierarchy of wireless channels.
7. The method as in claim 6, wherein the wireless channel is allocated from the tiered hierarchy by an allocation management resource in communication with the first wireless base station.
8. The method as in claim 1, wherein the command to operate in the device-to-device communication mode is received in response to detecting multiple communication devices receiving communications of the first data type.
9. The method as in claim 1, wherein the detected condition is determined from map information indicating that the second mobile communication device historically retrieves content of the first data type.
10. The method as in claim 9, wherein the map information is generated prior to the detected wireless interference.
11. The method as in claim 1, wherein the detected condition is based on detection of a network address of a server resource serving the second content to the second mobile communication device.
12. The method as in claim 1, wherein the detected condition is based on a network address associated with delivery of the second content to the second mobile communication device.
13. The method as in claim 12, wherein the network address is assigned to a server serving both: i) the first content to the first mobile communication device, and ii) the second content to the second mobile communication device.
15. The method as in claim 14, wherein the power control command indicates to reduce the power level of the first mobile communication device communicating with the second mobile communication device in the device-to-device communication mode.
16. The method as in claim 1, wherein the detected wireless interference is caused by the first wireless base station communicating with the second mobile communication device.
17. The method as in claim 1, wherein the command is received at the first mobile communication device in response to detection that a group of multiple communication devices including the first mobile communication device and the second mobile communication device and a third communication device receive content of the first data type.
18. The method as in claim 17, wherein each of the multiple communication devices in the group is notified to operate in the device-to-device communication mode, the device-to-device communication mode supporting conveyance of data of the first type to the group of communication devices.
19. The method as in claim 18, wherein the first communication device is further operative to communicate second data to the third communication device via the device-to-device communication mode, the third communication device being a member of the group.
22. The method as in claim 1, wherein the detected condition further includes detecting that a particular server serves both: i) the first content through the first wireless base station to the first mobile communication device, and ii) second content through the first wireless base station to the second mobile communication device.
24. The system as in claim 23, wherein the wireless channel is allocated for use by the second mobile communication device to communicate with the first wireless base station prior to operation of the first mobile communication device in the device-to-device communication mode.
26. The system as in claim 23, wherein the command is received in connection information indicating interconnectivity of multiple mobile communication devices, the interconnectivity defining the device-to-device communication mode of conveying communications of the first data type from the first mobile communication device to the second mobile communication device.
27. The system as in claim 23, wherein the command to operate in the device-to-device communication mode is received in response to detecting multiple mobile communication devices receiving communications of the first data type, the multiple mobile communication devices including the first mobile communication device and the second mobile communication device, the second mobile communication device in communication with the first wireless base station.
