Technical Abstract

A method includes receiving a payment request that indicates a card identifier corresponding to a payment instrument to be used for payment. The method further includes determining that the card identifiers fails to satisfy at least one card activity criteria. Additionally, method includes subsequent to determining that no failed authorization attempts were performed for the card identifier within a previous time period, retrieving, from a database, a decline probability score associated with the card identifier. The method also includes based on the decline probability score, determining whether to transmit an authorization request for the card identifier prior to processing the payment request.

Patent Claims
12 claims

Legal claims defining the scope of protection, as filed with the USPTO.

2

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the machine learning model comprises a gradient boosted tree machine learning model.

3

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the machine learning model is executed on a hourly basis, a daily basis, or a weekly basis.

4

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the machine learning model is further trained with previous transaction information associated with the plurality of card identifiers.

5

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the plurality of card identifiers are associated with a plurality of previous transactions, and wherein a predetermined percentage of the plurality of previous transactions were terminated due to the associated card identifier being declined.

6

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the payment request comprises a zero-amount payment request.

7

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the applying the hashing function generates at least a set of duplicate hashes, and wherein the decline probability score is calculated for the set of duplicate hashes.

9

9. The method of claim 8, wherein the card activity criteria comprises at least one of: a use of the second card identifier within a predetermined time period in a past, an addition of the second card identifier as a payment option for a user account within the predetermined time period in the past, or a successful authorization of the second card identifier within the predetermined time period in the past.

13

13. The system of claim 12, wherein the machine learning model is further trained with previous transaction information associated with the plurality of card identifiers.

14

14. The system of claim 12, wherein the plurality of card identifiers are associated with a plurality of previous transactions, and wherein a predetermined percentage of the plurality of previous transactions were terminated due to the associated card identifier being declined.

15

15. The system of claim 12, wherein the applying the hashing function generates at least a set of duplicate hashes, and wherein the decline probability score is calculated for the set of duplicate hashes.

17

17. The system of claim 16, wherein the card activity criteria comprises at least one of: a use of the second card identifier within a predetermined time period in a past, an addition of the second card identifier as a payment option for a user account within the predetermined time period in the past, or a successful authorization of the second card identifier within the predetermined time period in the past.

20

20. The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 19, wherein the applying the hashing function generates at least a set of duplicate hashes, and wherein the decline probability score is calculated for the set of duplicate hashes.
