Technical Abstract

A network system is provided that enables a user to record media in connection with a user operating a service application to participate in a transport service. In examples, the network system includes a user computing device on which media is recorded and stored in an unrenderable state. The user can elect to make a media recording submission for a particular service activity (e.g., trip provided or received by user). In response to the media recording submission, the user computing device identifies one or more media files that contain media data which depict the service activity. The identified media files are transmitted to a service computing system where the media files can be rendered.

1. A computer system comprising: one or more processors; a memory to store a set of instructions; wherein the one or more processors execute the set of instructions to perform operations that include: initiating a media recording process to record media data on the computer system in connection with a service provider operating a service application, the service application enabling the service provider to provide transport services through a network service, wherein the media recording process including includes structuring recorded media data into multiple media files that are each unrenderable on the computer system; processing data generated from the service application executing on the computer system to identify one or more trip activities that occur while the media recording process is being performed; for each of the one or more trip activities, associating a corresponding label with one or more of the multiple media files that include media data recorded at a time that coincides with the trip activity; storing each media file in association with the corresponding label, and with metadata that reflects an original state of the media file; and enabling the one or more media files associated with the corresponding label of each of the one or more trip activities to be transmitted to a remote computer system, each transmitted media file being provided with fingerprint data that is based on the associated metadata.

2

2. The computer system of claim 1, wherein the computer system includes an in-vehicle device.

3

3. The computer system of claim 1, wherein the media recording process records audio that is stored on the computer system.

4

4. The computer system of claim 3, wherein structuring recorded media data includes segmenting the recorded media files into a plurality of segments, each segment reflecting recorded media data for a predetermined interval of time, and each segment corresponding to one of the multiple media files.

5

5. The computer system of claim 1, further comprising: the remote computer system; and wherein the operations further comprise performing, on the remote computer system, operations that include transforming each media file transmitted from the computer system into a renderable form in which media file is viewable.

6

6. The computer system of claim 5, wherein transforming each media file transmitted from the computer system into the renderable form is based on the fingerprint data provided with each media file.

7

7. A non-transitory computer-readable medium that stores instructions, which when executed by one or more processors of a computer system, cause the computer system to perform operations that include: initiating a media recording process to record media data on the computer system in connection with a user operating a service application, the service application enabling the user to provide transport services through a network service; wherein the media recording process includes structuring recorded media data into multiple media files that are each unrenderable on the computer system; processing data generated from the service application executing on the computer system to identify one or more trip activities that occur while the media recording process is being performed; for each of the one or more trip activities, associating a corresponding label with one or more of the multiple media files that include media data recorded at a time that coincides with the trip activity; storing each media file in association with the corresponding label, and with metadata that reflects an original state of the media file; and enabling the one or more media files associated with the corresponding label of each of the one or more trip activities to be transmitted to a remote computer system, each transmitted media file being provided with fingerprint data that is based on the associated metadata.

8

8. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 7, wherein the non-transitory computer-readable medium includes an in-vehicle device.

9

9. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 7, wherein the media recording process structures records audio that is stored on the computer system.

10

10. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 9, wherein structuring recorded media data includes segmenting the recorded media files into a plurality of segments, each segment reflecting recorded media data for a predetermined interval of time, and each segment corresponding to one of the multiple media files.

11

11. A computer-implemented method comprising: initiating a media recording process to record media data on a computer system in connection with a user operating a service application, the service application enabling the user to provide transport services through a network service, wherein the media recording process includes structuring recorded media data into multiple media files that are each unrenderable on the computer system; processing data generated from the service application executing on the computer system to identify one or more trip activities that occur while the media recording process is being performed; for each of the one or more trip activities, associating a corresponding label with one or more of the multiple media files that include media data recorded at a time that coincides with the trip activity; storing each media file in association with the corresponding label, and with metadata that reflects an original state of the media file; and enabling the one or more media files associated with the corresponding label of each of the one or more trip activities to be transmitted to a remote computer system, each transmitted media file being provided with fingerprint data the is based on the associated metadata.

12

12. The computer-implemented method of claim 11, wherein the computer-implemented method includes an in-vehicle device.

13

13. The computer-implemented method of claim 11, wherein the media recording process records audio that is stored on the computer system.

14

14. The computer-implemented method of claim 13, wherein structuring recorded media data includes segmenting the recorded media files into a plurality of segments, each segment reflecting recorded media data for a predetermined interval of time, and each segment corresponding to one of the multiple media files.

15

15. The computer-implemented method of claim 11, further comprising: on the remote computer system, transforming each media file transmitted from the computer system into a renderable form in which the media file is viewable.

16

16. The computer-implemented method of claim 15, wherein transforming each media file transmitted from the computer system into the renderable form is based on the fingerprint data provided with each media file.
