The present invention relates to a removable lid for a drinking cup.

More particularly, the present invention relates to a beverage lid with a built-in clip mechanism, which can be used to secure the lid to the side rim of a drinking cup, any time the lid isn't securely fastened to the top of the cup. In another aspect, the present invention is a beverage lid which is suitable for reusable or disposable use, especially in the fast-food or take-out food and beverage market.

The present invention is a beverage lid with a built-in clip mechanism that allows a user to clip the lid to the side rim of a beverage cup when lid is not securely fastened on top of the cup, by securing the clip mechanism to a portion of the rim of the cup. The present invention is especially useful when a user removes the lid off the cup to add cream, sugar, and other additives to their drink, or to allow a hot beverage to cool down, without the user needing to set the lid down on any surface. The present invention can be manufactured as a disposable or reusable beverage lid. The built-in clip mechanism can be implemented as a movable feature which can be engaged and disengaged, or as a stationary and non-movable feature of the beverage lid, which is always engaged.

Referring now to the invention in more detail, inthere is shown a perspective view of a beverage lid with built-in clip mechanism that allows user to secure the lid to the side rim of a beverage cup when lid is not securely fastened on top of the cup, in which the clip mechanism is implemented as a movable feature of the lid. Referring in even greater detail in, there is shown a 1) clip mechanism implemented as a movable pull tab 2) designed based on the same curvature and geometry of the lid itself and 3) which lays flat against the side of the lid when not engaged.

In further detail, still referring to the invention in, the device is shown to have a built-in clip mechanism which can be engaged by pulling the tab away from the lid and disengaged by pushing the tab back into the side of the lid. When engaged, the beverage lid can be clipped to a portion of the rim of a beverage cup utilizing this built in clip mechanism.

The construction details of the invention as shown inare that the beverage lid with built-in clip mechanism that allows user to secure the lid to the side rim of a beverage cup may be made of plastic, paper, cardboard, or any other sufficiently moldable, rigid, and safe material and the like, and that the clip mechanism can be manufactured as a built-in component of the beverage lid.
