The disclosure relates to grinding discs and more particularly pertains to a new grinding disc having fins for facilitating collection of debris using a vacuum type grinder and inhibiting clogging of grinder during use.
The prior art relates to grinding discs. The grinding discs known provide for a circular outer shape having consistent spacing with an inwardly facing surface of a shroud of a grinder. Such discs substantially limit air flow between the grinding disc and a shroud of the grinder extending around the grinding disc.
An embodiment of the disclosure meets the needs presented above by generally comprising a hub having a connection hole configured for attachment to a grinder. A peripheral flange is coupled to and extends outwardly from a peripheral edge of the hub. The peripheral flange is shaped to define a plurality of fins around the peripheral edge of the hub. A plurality of grinding elements is arranged into sets of grinding elements. Each set is positioned on an associated one of the fins along a leading edge of the associated one of the fins.
There has thus been outlined, rather broadly, the more important features of the disclosure in order that the detailed description thereof that follows may be better understood, and in order that the present contribution to the art may be better appreciated. There are additional features of the disclosure that will be described hereinafter and which will form the subject matter of the claims appended hereto.
The objects of the disclosure, along with the various features of novelty which characterize the disclosure, are pointed out with particularity in the claims annexed to and forming a part of this disclosure.
With reference now to the drawings, and in particular tothereof, a new grinding discs embodying the principles and concepts of an embodiment of the disclosure and generally designated by the reference numeralwill be described.
As best illustrated in, the finned grinding disc devicegenerally comprises a hub. The hubhas a connection holewherein the hubis configured for attachment to a grinder. The connection holemay be threaded or utilize conventional connection structure for attachment to the grinder. The hubhas a central connection sectionand an extension sectionextending from the central connection sectionto a peripheral edgeof the hub. The extension sectionis curved wherein the hubis concave extending from the central connection sectionto the peripheral edgeof the hub. Each of a plurality of aperturesextends through the extension sectionof the hub. The aperturesare arranged radially around the connection hole.
A peripheral flangeis coupled to and extends outwardly from the peripheral edgeof the hub. The peripheral flangeis shaped to define a plurality of finsextending from and around the peripheral edgeof the hub. Each of the finshas a leading edgeand a trailing edgeas defined by a direction of rotation imparted by the grinder. The leading edgeof each of the finsis convexly arcuate extending away from the hub. The trailing edgeof each of the finsis straight and positioned to extend radially relative to the hub. The peripheral flangehas a planar grinding surfacewhich faces away from the grinderwhen the hubis attached to the grinder.
A plurality of grinding elementsare positioned on the peripheral flange. Each of the grinding elementshas a polygonal shape. It is intended that polygonal is most generally defined as a closed typically geometric shape having at least three straight sides. However, the polygonal shape, as shown specifically in the drawing figures, is a star shape. The plurality of grinding elementsis arranged into setsof grinding elements. Each setof grinding elementsis positioned on an associated one of the finsalong the leading edgeof the associated one of the fins. Each of the grinding elementsof each setof grinding elementsis inset from the leading edgeof the associated one of the fins. Each of the grinding elementsmay have a plurality of planar facetsfacing the leading edgeof the associated one of the finswith or without planar facets facing away from the leading edge. Each of the planar facetsextends perpendicularly from the planar grinding surfaceof the peripheral flange. Each setof grinding elementsincludes a plurality of interior grinding elementsA and an end grinding elementB. The end grinding elementB is positioned distally relative to the hub. The end grinding elementB of each setof grinding elementsis proportionally larger in size than each of the interior grinding elementsA of each setof grinding elements. Each interior grinding elementA of each setof grinding elementsis consistent in size to each other interior grinding elementA.
It is contemplated that there would be variations to the specific configurations shown in the drawing figures. As specifically shown, each grinding elementmay be a five pointed star shape but other polygonal shapes and variations in the number of points to the star shape would be within the scope of the teaching of this disclosure. Variations in the number of finsaround the peripheral edgewould also be contemplated including having between four and nine or more finsextending around the peripheral edgeof the hub. There can also be variations to the number of interior grinding elementsA in each setof grinding elementsincluding between 3 and 7 or more interior grinding elementsA.
In an alternative embodiment shown in, setsof grinding elementsalternate with a single protrusionon the finsextending from the hub.
In use, the finned grinding disc deviceis attached to the grinderin a conventional manner and the grinder is used in a conventional way. The shape and configuration of the grinding elementson the finsenhance functionality including air and debris flow into the grinderwhile inhibiting gumming of the action of the grinderduring use.
With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of an embodiment enabled by the disclosure, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by an embodiment of the disclosure.
Therefore, the foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the disclosure. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the disclosure to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the disclosure. In this patent document, the word “comprising” is used in its non-limiting sense to mean that items following the word are included, but items not specifically mentioned are not excluded. A reference to an element by the indefinite article “a” does not exclude the possibility that more than one of the element is present, unless the context clearly requires that there be only one of the elements.
