Technical Abstract

An eyewear-holding baseball cap includes a cap portion, a brim, orifices in said cap portion, and gripping structures. The cap portion has a pair of the orifices, one positioned in each of the left and right sides of the cap portion. The orifices are designed to permit insertion of left and right temple arms of eyewear resting on the brim into the interior of the cap portion. One of the gripping structures is positioned at a perimeter edge of each of the orifices to grip a temple arm inserted through each of the orifices to minimize or prevent eyewear resting on the brim from falling off.

The disclosure relates to baseball caps and more particularly pertains to a new eyewear-holding baseball cap for securely holding eyewear, such as sunglasses, resting on the brim of the baseball cap.

The prior art relates to baseball caps. The prior art, as best understood, does not disclose a baseball cap that has a pair of the orifices, one positioned in each of the left and right sides of the cap portion, designed to permit insertion of left and right temple arms of eyewear resting on the brim into the interior of the cap portion, wherein there are gripping structures positioned at a perimeter edge of each of the orifices to grip a temple arm inserted through each of the orifices to minimize or prevent eyewear resting on the brim from falling off.

An embodiment of the disclosure meets the needs presented above in a eyewear-holding baseball cap generally comprising a cap portion, a brim, orifices in said cap portion, and gripping structures. The eyewear can be sunglasses, though other eyewear, such as eyeglasses, reading glasses, and safety glasses, could also be held in place by the gripping structures.

There has thus been outlined, rather broadly, the more important features of the disclosure in order that the detailed description thereof that follows may be better understood, and in order that the present contribution to the art may be better appreciated. There are additional features of the disclosure that will be described hereinafter and which will form the subject matter of the claims appended hereto.

The objects of the disclosure, along with the various features of novelty which characterize the disclosure, are pointed out with particularity in the claims annexed to and forming a part of this disclosure.

With reference now to the drawings, and in particular tothereof, a new eyewear-holding baseball cap embodying the principles and concepts of an embodiment of the disclosure and generally designated by the reference numeralwill be described.

As best illustrated in, the eyewear-holding baseball capgenerally comprises a cap portion, a brim, orificesin said cap portion, and gripping structures. The cap portionhas a pair of the orifices, one positioned in each of the left and right sides of the cap portion. The orificesare designed to permit insertion of left and right temple armsof eyewear resting on the briminto the interior of the cap portion. One of the gripping structuresis positioned at a perimeter edge of each of the orificesto grip a temple arminserted through each of the orificesto minimize or prevent eyewear resting on the brimfrom falling off. The eyewear can be sunglasses, as shown in, though other eyewear, such as eyeglasses, reading glasses, and safety glasses, could also be held in place by the gripping structures.

Each of the orificesis designed as a vertical slitoriented transverse to a lower edgeof the cap portion. Each of the slitshas a pair of the gripping structurespositioned one on each elongated side of the slit. Each of the pair of gripping structuresis in the form of an elongated strip positioned along the length of its corresponding elongated side. The pair of gripping structuresare disposed immediately adjacent or in contact with one another, such as in an overlapping and concealed manner, as best seen in. This close positioning promotes greater gripping of the temple arms, as shown in. It should be noted that the design and positioning of the gripping structuresshown inis one exemplary embodiment and alternative embodiments are within the scope of the disclosure, such as an embodiment in which the gripping structuresare positioned on or coating the edges of the slitand facing one another, much like a pair of lips.

Each of the gripping structuresis made of rubber or similar material that produces friction to grip the temple arms, such as a soft plastic or elastomer. Each of the slitsis positioned approximately 1.0 to 1.5 inches from the lower edge of the cap portionand is approximately 1.0 to 1.5 inches long. This positioning allows most any eyewear to be easily inserted into the slits, regardless of the height of the frame.

With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of an embodiment enabled by the disclosure, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by an embodiment of the disclosure.

Therefore, the foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the disclosure. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the disclosure to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the disclosure. In this patent document, the word “comprising” is used in its non-limiting sense to mean that items following the word are included, but items not specifically mentioned are not excluded. A reference to an element by the indefinite article “a” does not exclude the possibility that more than one of the element is present, unless the context clearly requires that there be only one of the elements.
