Detailed Description

Complete technical specification and implementation details from the patent document.

The present invention relates to attachments for furniture and more particularly to a versatile seat attachment to receive a tray mountable on an article of furniture having a seat.

Known seating attached trays are permanently attached or attached with permanent features on seat arms. Such trays or features obstruct the general use of the seat and do not provide significant adjustment. When various social media devices are used known trays do not provide a convenient resting place for the device at an appropriate distance from the user.

As a result there is a need for a versatile seat attachment device which does not obstruct the general use of the seat and allows substantial adjustment of an attached tray.

The present invention addresses the above and other needs by providing a Versatile Seat attachment Device (VSD) comprising a base receiver and base which includes a power source, the base receiver attachable to a furniture, and a base button to attach and release the base from the base receiver. The power source may be batteries or a USB AC adapter, or both.

In accordance with one aspect of the invention, there is provided a VSD which can be easily mounted on an article of furniture having a seat. The VSD provides support for articles, such as drinking glasses or snacks, in convenient reach of a person using the seat. The VSD may be removed and disposed in storage when not in use; is versatile in location, adjustable in height and may be adjustably positioned relative to the associated seat; and is simple and durable in construction, economical to manufacture and neat and attractive in appearance.

In accordance with another aspect of the invention, there is provided a VSD having a built-in USB connector to convert a furniture without the ability to power a personal device to a furniture with the ability to power a personal device which is in close proximity to a sitting person for convenience. Some furniture comes equipped with a USB connector, but other furniture does not include a USB connector. The VSD allows a furniture without a built-in USB connector to cheaply and simply attach a device so that a person can power their personal device like a smart phone or tablet while conveniently sitting on their seat.

In accordance with still another aspect of the invention, there is provided a VSD comprising a base and a base receiver that is attachable to a furniture bottom either on a right side, a left side or a front side or any location desired by a user. The base slides onto the base receiver by pressing a base button which engages a locking mechanism to lock and unlock the base to and from the base receiver. The base also includes a vertical chamber that can hold a removable arm for the purpose of supporting a tray or a cup holder.
