The disclosure relates to golf putter accessories and more particularly pertains to a new golf putter grip accessory for providing a user with a grip location to place his index finger to assist the user in holding a golf putter straight.

The prior art relates to golf putter accessories. The prior art, as best understood, does not disclose a golf putter grip accessory that includes a protuberance that is configured to be removably attached to the shaft of a golf putter, where the device is positioned adjacent to the putter's grip and used to provide an additional gripping surface to aid the golfer in performing a straight swing.

An embodiment of the disclosure meets the needs presented above in a golf putter grip accessory generally comprising a protruding grip body and a clamping assembly.

The grip body includes an inner surface designed to face a golf putter grip when the golf putter grip accessory is removably attached to a golf putter, and an outer surface that is ergonomically contoured to provide a gripping surface for an extended index finger of a user to assist a user in holding the golf putter straight. The clamping assembly is attached to the grip body and designed to releasably attach the golf putter grip accessory to the golf putter.

There has thus been outlined, rather broadly, the more important features of the disclosure in order that the detailed description thereof that follows may be better understood, and in order that the present contribution to the art may be better appreciated. There are additional features of the disclosure that will be described hereinafter and which will form the subject matter of the claims appended hereto.

The objects of the disclosure, along with the various features of novelty which characterize the disclosure, are pointed out with particularity in the claims annexed to and forming a part of this disclosure.

With reference now to the drawings, and in particular tothereof, a new golf putter grip accessory embodying the principles and concepts of an embodiment of the disclosure and generally designated by the reference numeralwill be described.

As best illustrated in, the golf putter grip accessorygenerally comprises a protruding grip bodyand a clamping assembly. The protruding grip bodyincludes an inner surfacedesigned to face a golf putter gripwhen the golf putter grip accessoryis removably attached to a golf putter, and an outer surfacethat is ergonomically contoured to provide a gripping surface for an extended index fingerof a user to assist a user in holding the golf putterstraight. The clamping assemblyis attached to the grip bodyand designed to releasably attach the golf putter grip accessoryto the golf putter.

The grip bodyis elongated and designed to run along the length of a portion of the golf putter gripwhen the golf putter grip accessoryis removably attached to the golf putter, as shown in. In the exemplary embodiment shown in, the outer surfacehas a concave cross-sectional profile, such that the outer surfaceessentially cradles the index fingerof a user. However, the outer surfacecould also have a straight or flat cross-sectional profile. The grip bodyhas a curved, arched profile wherein the outer surfaceslopes downwardly in opposite directions from a central portionto a pair of end portions. The grip bodyand the clamping assemblycomprise metal, plastic, or a combination thereof. In the exemplary embodiment in, the inner surfacehas a concave cross-sectional profile and essentially straight edges. However, other designs are possible, such as an inner surfacehaving a straight or flat cross-sectional profile, or an inner surfacehaving curved edges such that the inner surfacehas a curved shape similar to the curved, arched profile of the grip bodyat the outer surface, such as shown in the exemplary embodiment in.

As shown in, the clamping assemblyis designed to releasably clamp onto a golf putter shaftadjacent the golf putter grip. The clamping assemblyprojects away from the inner surfacea sufficient distance to position the grip bodyaway from the golf putter shaftand over the golf putter grip. As shown in, the clamping assemblyincludes a cylindrical inner surface. The cylindrical inner surfacepermits rotational adjustment and placement of the protruding grip bodyat any position about an exterior surface of the golf putter grip. This design allows for the user to position the golf putter grip accessoryin any position 360 degrees about the golf putter shaft, such as for unusual or customized grip styles or for right-handed or left-handed putters.

In the exemplary embodiment shown in, the clamping assemblyincludes a first clamping portionattached to the grip bodyand a second clamping portiondetachably connected to the first clamping portionby attachment structures. The attachment structurescomprise screwsinsertable through passagesin the second clamping portionand into corresponding threaded orificesin the first clamping portion. The screwsallow the second clamping portionto be tightly secured to the first clamping portionto promote a tight grip on the golf putter shaft. The first clamping portionis integrally formed with the grip body, though it could be attached or connected to the grip bodyin a known manner. The cylindrical inner surfaceis divided into two sections, one on each of the first clamping portionand the second clamping portion. In one possible embodiment, the first clamping portioncould be partially attached to the second clamping portionon one side or edge in a hinged manner, such that the first clamping portioncan be pivoted away from the second clamping portionto open the clamping assembly.

shows an example of a user gripping the golf putter gripwith the golf putter grip accessoryattached to the golf putter shaft. The user rests his index fingeron the outer surfaceof the grip body, which assists the user in holding the golf putterstraight. The user has the option to adjust the position of the golf putter grip accessoryby releasing the clamping assembly, rotating the golf putter grip accessory, and then securing the clamping assemblyin the new position on the golf putter shaft.

With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of an embodiment enabled by the disclosure, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by an embodiment of the disclosure.

Therefore, the foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the disclosure. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the disclosure to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the disclosure. In this patent document, the word “comprising” is used in its non-limiting sense to mean that items following the word are included, but items not specifically mentioned are not excluded.

A reference to an element by the indefinite article “a” does not exclude the possibility that more than one of the element is present, unless the context clearly requires that there be only one of the elements.
