The disclosure relates to door installation systems and accessories and more particularly pertains to a new door trim installation system for providing an installer with an alignment and support surface for quick and accurate positioning of a top piece of door trim, moulding, or casing with respect to a top of a door frame, which allows an installer to accurately install the top piece and then the side pieces of the door trim, moulding, or casing in alignment with the door frame and with a sufficient reveal. It should be understood that the phrase “door trim” as used in this application refers to any type of door trim, moulding, casing, or similar.

The prior art relates to door installation systems and accessories. The prior art, as best understood, does not disclose a door trim installation system that includes a right-angle bracket, an angled reinforcement structure, and a securing assembly, wherein the first leg of the bracket includes a support shoulder designed to project out beyond a door frame and upwardly over a reveal to provide an alignment and support surface for a top piece of door trim or moulding to be installed.

An embodiment of the disclosure meets the needs presented above in a door trim installation system generally comprising a right-angle bracket that includes a first leg and a second leg, an angled reinforcement structure attached to and reinforcing the first leg and the second leg, and a securing assembly to temporarily secure the bracket to a door frame. Each of the first and second legs includes an outer surface abuttable against an interior surface of a corner portion of a door frame. The first leg includes a support shoulder designed to project out beyond a door frame and upwardly over a reveal to provide an alignment and support surface for a top piece of door trim or moulding to be installed.

There has thus been outlined, rather broadly, the more important features of the disclosure in order that the detailed description thereof that follows may be better understood, and in order that the present contribution to the art may be better appreciated. There are additional features of the disclosure that will be described hereinafter and which will form the subject matter of the claims appended hereto.

The objects of the disclosure, along with the various features of novelty which characterize the disclosure, are pointed out with particularity in the claims annexed to and forming a part of this disclosure.

With reference now to the drawings, and in particular tothereof, a new door trim installation system embodying the principles and concepts of an embodiment of the disclosure and generally designated by the reference numeralwill be described.

As best illustrated in, the door trim installation systemgenerally comprises a right-angle bracketthat includes a first legand a second leg, an angled reinforcement structureattached to and reinforcing the first legand the second leg, and a securing assemblyto temporarily secure the bracketto a door frame. Each of the first and second legs, includes an outer surfaceabuttable against an interior surfaceof a corner portionof a door frame. The first legincludes a support shoulderdesigned to project out beyond a door frameand upwardly over a revealto provide an alignment and support surfacefor a top pieceof door trim or moulding to be installed.

As seen in, the alignment and support surfaceis positioned parallel to the outer surfaceof the first leg. As shown in, the angled reinforcement structureis in the form of a triangular panel, though other reinforcing structures such as bars or arms could be used. As shown in, the securing assemblyincludes a pair of nailsand each of the first and second legs, includes an orificethrough which a corresponding one of the pair of nailsis to be inserted. The nailscan be double-headed nails. Other securing devices or structures, such as screws or tacks could be used. The bracketcould be made of plastic or metal.

The door trim installation systemis used to install a top pieceof door trim, moulding, or casing. When installing door trim, the top pieceshould be aligned with the top of the door frameand with a reveal, which can be any size though often 3/16 of an inch. The thickness of the support shouldercan be varied in manufacture of the bracketto provide revealsof different widths. Once the top pieceis attached, the side pieces of the door trim are positioned on the sides of the door framewith the mitered edge of the top piecealigned with the mitered edge of the side piece. If the top pieceis misaligned with the top of the door frame, the side pieces will also be misaligned. The door trim installation systempromotes proper alignment and positioning of the top piece. In use, the installer first abuts the outer surfacesof the first and second legs,of the bracketagainst an interior surfaceof a corner portionof a door frame, as shown in. The installer also abuts the support shoulderagainst the door frameand over a revealof the door frame. The installer then temporarily secures the bracketto the door framewith the securing assembly, such as by hammering nailsthrough orifices in the first and second legs,as shown in. As seen in, the installer then places the top pieceof door trim on the alignment and support surfaceof the support shoulderand thereby aligns the top piecewith a top portion of the door frame. The installer can now nail the top piecein place. The bracketsupports the top pieceand keeps it aligned, which allows the installer to have his hands relatively free for nailing in the top piece. Once the top pieceis nailed in, the installer can remove the securing assemblyand the bracketfrom the door frame. The installer can now attach the side pieces of the door trim using the top pieceas a guide. Since the top pieceis properly aligned with the desired reveal, the side pieces should also be easily and properly aligned.

With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of an embodiment enabled by the disclosure, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by an embodiment of the disclosure.

Therefore, the foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the disclosure. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the disclosure to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the disclosure. In this patent document, the word “comprising” is used in its non-limiting sense to mean that items following the word are included, but items not specifically mentioned are not excluded. A reference to an element by the indefinite article “a” does not exclude the possibility that more than one of the element is present, unless the context clearly requires that there be only one of the elements.
