A service message, including a device application identifier and a bearer service indicator, is generated and sent to a wireless communications device. As a result, data can be transmitted between a server and a wireless device over a selected bearer service.
Legal claims defining the scope of protection, as filed with the USPTO.
1. A method for transmitting data to a wireless communications device over a selected bearer service, comprising: generating a service message, the service message including a device application identifier, and a bearer service indicator, wherein the bearer service indicator includes identities of at least two usable bearer services, wherein one of the at least two usable bearer services is a minimum usable bearer service for the identified device application; and sending the service message to the wireless communications device.
2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: receiving, over a bearer service corresponding to the bearer service indicator, a service request.
3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the service request includes a second bearer service indicator.
4. The method of claim 3 , further comprising: sending to the wireless communications device, over a bearer service corresponding to the second bearer service indicator, service content.
5. The method of claim 2 , further comprising: sending to the wireless communications device, over a bearer service corresponding to the bearer service indicator, service content.
6. The method of claim 1 , wherein sending the service message to the wireless communications device includes sending the service message over a call control channel.
7. The method of claim 1 , wherein sending the service message to the wireless communications device includes sending the service message over a broadcast-oriented bearer service.
8. An apparatus for transmitting data to a wireless communications device over a selected bearer service, comprising: a processor; and a memory, coupled to said processor, for storing a plurality of instructions adapted for execution by said processor to: generate a service message, the service message including a device application identifier, and a bearer service indicator, wherein the bearer service indicator includes identities of at least two usable bearer services, wherein one of the at least two usable bearer services is a minimum usable bearer service for the identified device application; and send the service message to the wireless communications device.
9. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the plurality of instructions adapted for execution by said processor include instructions to: receive, over a bearer service corresponding to the bearer service indicator, a service request.
10. The apparatus of claim 9 , wherein the service request includes a second bearer service indicator.
11. The apparatus of claim 10 , wherein the plurality of instructions adapted for execution by said processor include instructions to: send to the wireless communications device, over a bearer service corresponding to the second bearer service indicator, service content.
12. The apparatus of claim 9 , wherein the plurality of instructions adapted for execution by said processor include instructions to: send to the wireless communications device, over a bearer service corresponding to the bearer service indicator, service content.
13. A medium storing a plurality of instructions adapted for execution by a processor for transmitting data to a wireless communications device over a selected bearer service, said plurality of instructions comprising instructions to: generate a service message, the service message including a device application identifier, and a bearer service indicator, wherein the bearer service indicator includes identities of at least two usable bearer services, wherein one of the at least two usable bearer services is a minimum usable bearer service for the identified device application; and send the service message to the wireless communications device.
14. The medium of claim 13 , wherein said plurality of instructions further comprise instructions to: receive, over a bearer service corresponding to the bearer service indicator, a service request.
15. The medium of claim 14 , wherein the service request includes a second bearer service indicator.
16. The medium of claim 15 , wherein said plurality of instructions further comprise instructions to: send to the wireless communications device, over a bearer service corresponding to the second bearer service indicator, service content.
17. The medium of claim 14 , wherein said plurality of instructions further comprise instructions to: send to the wireless communications device, over a bearer service corresponding to the bearer service indicator, service content.
18. A medium storing a plurality of instructions adapted for execution by a processor for receiving data on a wireless communications device over a selected bearer service, said plurality of instructions comprising instructions to: receive a service message including a device application identifier, and a bearer service indicator, wherein the bearer service indicator includes identities of at least two usable bearer services, wherein one of the at least two usable bearer services is a minimum usable bearer service for the identified device application; and store the bearer service indicator in the wireless communications device.
19. The medium of claim 18 , wherein said plurality of instructions further comprise instructions to: send, over a bearer service corresponding to the bearer service indicator, a service request.
20. The medium of claim 19 , wherein the service request includes a second bearer service indicator.
21. The medium of claim 20 , wherein said plurality of instructions further comprise instructions to: receive, over a bearer service corresponding to the second bearer service indicator, service content.
22. The medium of claim 19 , wherein said plurality of instructions further comprise instructions to: receive, over a bearer service corresponding to the bearer service indicator, service content.
