A backlight assembly includes a light source, a first light guide plate and a second light guide plate, in which the amount of light output from the first light guide plate is different from the amount of light output from the second light guide plate. A light output surface of the light source has an areal size substantially equal to the sum of areal sizes of light incident surfaces of the first and second light guide plates. The light guide plates each may have a different thickness, or the position of the light source with respect to the light incident surfaces is changed to control the amount of light output from the respective light guide plates. A display device includes a first display unit displaying first images using the light from the first light guide plate and a second display unit displaying second images using the light from the second light guide plate.
