Technical Abstract

A vehicle window control system for a vehicle having a data communications bus may include at least one vehicle device associated with operating a window of the vehicle, a window operation transmitter, a receiver at the vehicle for receiving signals from the window operation transmitter, and a controller connected to the data communications bus for communicating with the at least one vehicle device associated with operating the window of the vehicle. The vehicle window controller may also be connected to the receiver and may be responsive to signals from the window operation transmitter. A window piggyback controller may operate the windows based on signals on the data communications bus, such as door lock or door unlock signals.

A vehicle window control system for a vehicle comprising a data communications bus extending throughout the vehicle, and a plurality of vehicle devices communicating with one another over the data communications bus, the vehicle window control system comprising: at least one vehicle device associated with operating a window of the vehicle; a window operation transmitter; a receiver at the vehicle for receiving signals from said window operation transmitter; and a multi-vehicle compatible controller connected to the data communications bus extending throughout the vehicle for communicating with said at least one vehicle device associated with operating the window of the vehicle, said multi-vehicle compatible controller also connected to said receiver and being responsive to signals from said window operation transmitter.

2. A vehicle window control system according to claim 1 wherein said at least one vehicle device comprises a body module.

3. A vehicle window control system according to claim 1 wherein said at least one vehicle device comprises at least one window motor.

4. A vehicle window control system according to claim 1 wherein said at least one vehicle device comprises at least one window position sensor.

5. A vehicle window control system according to claim 1 wherein said window operation transmitter comprises a remote handheld transmitter to be carried by a user when away from the vehicle.

6. A vehicle window control system according to claim 1 wherein said window operation transmitter comprises a central station transmitter.

A vehicle window control system according to claim 1 wherein said multi-vehicle compatible controller generates at least one set of command signals on the data communications bus for the at least one vehicle device; and wherein the at least one set of command signals comprises at least one working command signal and at least one non-working command signal for a given vehicle to thereby provide command compatibility with a plurality of different vehicles.

A vehicle window control system according to claim 1 wherein said multi-vehicle compatible controller stores a set of device codes for a given vehicle device for a plurality of different vehicles, reads a device code from the data communications bus, and determines a match between the read device code and the stored device codes to thereby provide compatibility with a plurality of different vehicles.

A vehicle window control system according to claim 1 wherein said multi-vehicle compatible controller comprises a desired signal enabler for enabling operation using a desired set of signals for a corresponding desired vehicle from a plurality of sets of signals for different vehicles to thereby provide compatibility with a plurality of different vehicles.

10. A vehicle window control system according to claim 1 wherein said multi-vehicle compatible controller also performs at least one other vehicle security function.

11. A vehicle window control system according to claim 1 wherein said multi-vehicle compatible controller also performs at least one remote engine starting function.

12. A vehicle window control system according to claim 1 wherein said multi-vehicle compatible controller also performs at least one vehicle door lock function.

A vehicle window control system for a vehicle comprising a data communications bus extending throughout the vehicle, and a plurality of vehicle devices communicating with one another over the data communications bus, the plurality of vehicle devices comprising at least one vehicle window motor responsive to signals on the data communications bus, the window control system comprising: a window operation transmitter; a receiver at the vehicle for receiving signals from said window operation transmitter; and a multi-vehicle compatible controller connected to the data communications bus extending throughout the vehicle for communicating with said at least one vehicle window motor based upon signals from said window operation transmitter.

14. A vehicle window control system according to claim 13 further comprising a body module operatively connected between said multi-vehicle compatible controller and the at least one vehicle window motor.

15. A vehicle window control system according to claim 13 wherein said window operation transmitter comprises a remote handheld transmitter to be carried by a user when away from the vehicle.

16. A vehicle window control system according to claim 13 wherein said window operation transmitter comprises a central station transmitter.

A vehicle window control system according to claim 13 wherein said multi-vehicle compatible controller generates at least one set of command signals on the data communications bus for the at least one window motor; and wherein the at least one set of command signals comprises at least one working command signal and at least one non-working command signal for a given vehicle to thereby provide command compatibility with a plurality of different vehicles.

A vehicle window control system according to claim 13 wherein said multi-vehicle compatible controller stores a set of device codes for a given vehicle window motor for a plurality of different vehicles, reads a device code from the data communications bus, and determines a match between the read device code and the stored device codes to thereby provide compatibility with a plurality of different vehicles.

A vehicle window control system according to claim 13 wherein said multi-vehicle compatible controller comprises a desired signal enabler for enabling operation using a desired set of signals for a corresponding desired vehicle from a plurality of sets of signals for different vehicles to thereby provide compatibility with a plurality of different vehicles.

20. A vehicle window control system according to claim 13 wherein said multi-vehicle compatible controller also performs at least one other vehicle security function.

A vehicle window control system for a vehicle comprising a data communications bus extending throughout the vehicle, and a plurality of vehicle devices communicating with one another over the data communications bus, and a body module responsive to signals on the data communications bus extending throughout the vehicle for controlling at least one vehicle window, the window control system comprising: a window operation transmitter; a receiver at the vehicle for receiving signals from said window operation transmitter; and a multi-vehicle compatible controller connected to the data communications bus extending throughout the vehicle for communicating with said body module to operate the at least one vehicle window based upon signals from said window operating transmitter.

24. A vehicle window control system according to claim 23 wherein said window operation transmitter comprises a remote handheld transmitter to be carried by a user when away from the vehicle.

A vehicle window control system according to claim 23 wherein said multi-vehicle compatible controller stores a set of device codes for a given vehicle body module for a plurality of different vehicles, reads a device code from the data communications bus, and determines a match between the read device code and the stored device codes to thereby provide compatibility with a plurality of different vehicles.

A vehicle window control system according to claim 23 wherein said multi-vehicle compatible controller comprises a desired signal enabler for enabling operation using a desired set of signals for a corresponding desired vehicle from a plurality of sets of signals for different vehicles to thereby provide compatibility with a plurality of different vehicles.

A vehicle window control system for a vehicle comprising a data communications bus extending throughout the vehicle, and a plurality of vehicle devices communicating with one another over the data communications bus, the vehicle window control system comprising: at least one vehicle device associated with operating a vehicle window, a remote function transmitter to be carried by a user; a receiver at the vehicle for receiving a remote function signal from said remote function transmitter; a multi-vehicle compatible controller connected to said receiver for generating a vehicle function signal on said data communications bus extending throughout the vehicle responsive to the remote function signal from said remote function transmitter for performing a vehicle function; and a window piggyback controller at the vehicle and connected to the data communications bus extending throughout the vehicle for operating the at least one vehicle device associated with operating the vehicle window based upon the vehicle function signals generated on the data communications bus extending throughout the vehicle by the multi-vehicle compatible controller.

33. A vehicle window control system according to claim 32 wherein the remote function signal comprises at least one of a door lock and a door unlock signal.

A vehicle window control system according to claim 37 wherein said multi-vehicle compatible window piggyback controller stores a set of device codes for a given vehicle device for a plurality of different vehicles, reads a device code from the data communications bus, and determines a match between the read device code and the stored device codes to thereby provide compatibility with a plurality of different vehicles.

A vehicle window control system according to claim 37 wherein said multi-vehicle compatible window piggyback controller comprises a desired signal enabler for enabling operation using a desired set of signals for a corresponding desired vehicle from a plurality of sets of signals for different vehicles to thereby provide compatibility with a plurality of different vehicles.

A method for operating at least one window of a vehicle comprising a data communications bus extending throughout the vehicle, and a plurality of vehicle devices communicating with one another over the data communications bus, the plurality of vehicle devices comprising at least one vehicle device associated with operating the at least one window, the method comprising: receiving signals at the vehicle from a window operation transmitter; connecting a multi-vehicle compatible controller to the data communicator bus extending throughout the vehicle for communicating with the at least one vehicle device associated with operating the at least one window; and using the multi-vehicle compatible controller to operate the at least one window responsive to signals received at the vehicle from the window operation transmitter and based upon communication over the data communications bus extending throughout the vehicle with the at least one vehicle device associated with operating the at least one window.

42. A method according to claim 41 wherein the at least one vehicle device comprises a body module.

A method according to claim 41 further comprising storing a set of device codes for a given vehicle device for a plurality of different vehicles using the multi-vehicle compatible controller, and determining a match between a read device code and the stored device codes to thereby provide compatibility with a plurality of different vehicles.

A method according to claim 41 wherein the multi-vehicle compatible controller comprises a desired signal enabler for enabling operation using a desired set of signals for a corresponding desired vehicle from a plurality of sets of signals for different vehicles to thereby provide compatibility with a plurality of different vehicles.

A method for piggybacking a window control function to a vehicle window control system in a vehicle of a type comprising a data communications bus extending throughout the vehicle, and a plurality of vehicle devices communicating with one another over the data communications bus, the window control system comprising at least one vehicle device associated with operating a vehicle window, a remote function transmitter to be carried by a user, a receiver at the vehicle for receiving a remote function signal from the remote function transmitter, and a multi-vehicle compatible controller connected to the receiver for generating a vehicle function signal on the data communications bus extending throughout the vehicle responsive to the remote function signal from the remote function transmitter for performing a vehicle function, the method comprising: connecting a window piggyback controller to the data communications bus extending throughout the vehicle; and using the window piggyback controller to operate the at least one vehicle device associated with operating the vehicle window based upon the vehicle function signals generated on the data communications bus extending throughout the vehicle by the multi-vehicle compatible controller.

54. A method according to claim 53 wherein the remote function signal comprises at least one of a door lock and a door unlock signal.
