There is provided in one embodiment an indicia reading apparatus having an image sensor array. The indicia reading apparatus can have a first operator selectable configuration and a second operator selectable configuration.

An indicia reading apparatus comprising: an image sensor array having a plurality of pixels formed in a plurality of rows and columns; an image frame memory that retains pixel values making up a frame of image data, wherein the indicia reading apparatus is configured to read out image signals from said image sensor array and to digitize such signals for output of image data to the image frame memory; a first operator selectable configuration; a second operator selectable configuration; wherein the indicia reading apparatus, when the first operator selectable configuration is active, applies a first type of filter to a frame of image data output for processing for attempting to decode a decodable indicia; wherein the indicia reading apparatus, when the second operator selectable configuration is active, applies a second type of filter to a frame of image data output for processing for attempting to decode a decodable indicia.
2. The indicia reading apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the first type of filter is a LoG filter.
3. The indicia reading apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the second type of filter is a Gaussian filter.
4. The indicia reading apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the first type of filter is a type of filter is a LoG filter and wherein the second type of filter is a Gaussian filter.
5. The indicia reading apparatus of claim 1 , wherein indicia reading apparatus includes a 1D Optimized button for selection of the first operator selectable configuration and a 2D Optimized button for selection of the second operator selectable configuration.
6. The indicia reading apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the first operator selectable configuration is a configuration in which the indicia reading apparatus is optimized for reading 1D bar codes and wherein the second operator selectable configuration is a configuration in which the indicia reading apparatus is optimized for reading 2D bar codes.
7. An indicia reading apparatus comprising: an image sensor array having a plurality of pixels formed in a plurality of rows and columns; an image frame memory that retains pixel values making up a frame of image data, wherein the indicia reading apparatus is configured to read out image signals from said image sensor array and to digitize such signals for output of image data to the image frame memory; a first operator selectable configuration; a second operator selectable configuration; wherein the indicia reading apparatus, when the first operator selectable configuration is active, is restricted from applying other than a common filter to output frames of image data output subsequently to a trigger signal activation; wherein the indicia reading apparatus, when the second operator selectable configuration is active, is capable of applying different filters to frames of image data output for processing for attempting to decode a decodable indicia.
8. The indicia reading apparatus of claim 7 , wherein the first operator selectable configuration and the second operator selectable configuration are selectable with use of displayed actuators.
9. The indicia reading apparatus of claim 7 , wherein the different filters are applied according a predetermined list.
10. The indicia reading apparatus of claim 7 , wherein with the second operator selectable configuration active the indicia reading apparatus applies a filter in response to a sensed condition.
11. The indicia reading apparatus of claim 7 , wherein with the second operator selectable configuration active the indicia reading apparatus applies a filter in response to a sensed condition determined by processing a previous frame of image data.
12. The indicia reading apparatus of claim 7 , wherein with the second operator selectable configuration active the indicia reading apparatus applies a LoG filter to a certain frame of the frames of image data and a Gaussian filter to another frame of the frames of image data.
13. The indicia reading apparatus of claim 7 , wherein with the second operator selectable configuration active the indicia reading apparatus applies a Laplacian filter to a certain frame of the frames of image data and a Gaussian filter to another frame of the frames of image data.
14. The indicia reading apparatus of claim 7 , wherein with the second operator selectable configuration active the indicia reading apparatus applies a Laplacian filter to a certain frame of the frames of image data and an LoG filter to another frame of the frames of image data.
