Technical Abstract

An image processing apparatus includes an image pickup circuit having a plurality of photographic modes, such as television standards, a compression processing circuit for performing compression processing of an image pickup signal outputted from the image pickup circuit, the compression circuit having a plurality of compression modes, and a selecting circuit for selecting one of the compression modes of the compression processing circuit in accordance with a selected one of the photographic modes of the image pickup circuit.

A method of an image data process, comprising the steps of: a) designating an image size selected from a plurality of image sizes and a compression mode selected from a plurality of compression modes respectively; b) changing the image size in accordance with designation by said designating step; c) compressing said changed image data in a combination of a DCT, a quantization and a coding process in accordance with designation by said designating step; d) adding additional data corresponding to said image size and said compression mode designated by said designating step to the compressed image data; e) recording said compressed image data and said added data added by said adding step on a recording medium; f) reproducing said compressed image data recorded by said recording step; g) detecting said added data recorded by said recording step; h) up converting an image resolution of said reproduced image data in accordance with said added data; and i) displaying said image data up converted by said up converting step.

2. The image data process method according to claim 1 , wherein in the step of changing the image data includes a down convert process.

3. The image data process method according to claim 1 , wherein in the step of up converting image resolution includes an up covert process so as to increase the number of horizontal data.

4. The image data process method according to claim 1 , wherein said recording medium includes a tape.

A method of a movie image data process, comprising the steps of: a) designating an image size selected from a plurality of image sizes and a compression mode selected from a plurality of compression modes respectively; b) changing the movie image data in accordance with designation by said designating step; c) compressing said changed image data in a combination of a DCT, a quantization and a coding process in accordance with designation by said designating step; d) adding additional data corresponding to said image size and said compression mode designated by said designating step to the compressed movie image data; e) recording said compressed movie image data and said added data added by said adding step on a recording medium; f) reproducing said compressed movie image data recorded by said recording step; g) detecting said added data recorded by said recording step; h) up converting an image resolution of said reproduced movie image data in accordance with said added data; and i) displaying said movie image data up converted by said up converting step.

10. The movie image data process method according to claim 9 , wherein said compression mode is set to a predetermined bitrate.

11. The movie image data process method according to claim 9 , wherein in the step of changing the movie image data includes a down convert process.

12. The movie image data process method according to claim 9 , wherein in the step of up converting the movie image resolution includes an up convert process so as to increase the number of horizontal line.

An image data process apparatus, comprising: a) designation unit, adapted to designate an image size selected from a plurality of image sizes and a compression mode selected from a plurality of compression modes respectively; h) change unit, adapted to change the image data in accordance with designation by said designation unit; c) compression unit, adapted to compress said changed image data in a combination of a DCT, a quantization and a coding process in accordance with designation by said designation unit; d) adding unit, adapted to add additional data corresponding to said image size and said compression mode designated by said designation unit to the compressed image data; e) recording unit, adapted to record said compressed image data and said added data added by said adding unit on a recording medium; f) reproducing unit, adapted to reproduce said compressed image data recorded by said recording unit; g) detecting unit, adapted to detect said added data recorded by said recording unit; h) up converter unit, adapted to up convert an image resolution of said reproduced image data in accordance with said added data; and i) display unit, adapted to display said image data up converted by said up converter unit.

19. The image data process apparatus according to claim 18 , wherein said change unit includes a down converter.

A movie image data process apparatus, comprising: a) designation unit, adapted to designate a movie image size selected from a plurality of image sizes and a compression mode selected from a plurality of compression modes respectively; b) change unit, adapted to change the movie image data in accordance with designation by said designation unit; c) compression unit, adapted to compress said changed movie image data in a combination of a DCT, a quantization and a coding process in accordance with designation by said designation unit; d) adding unit, adapted to add additional data corresponding to said image size and said compression mode designated by said designation unit to the compressed movie image data; e) recording unit, adapted to record said compressed movie image data and said added data added by said adding unit on a recording medium; f) reproducing unit, adapted to reproduce said compressed movie image data recorded by said recording unit; g) detecting unit, adapted to detect said added data recorded by said recording unit; h) up converter unit, adapted to up convert a movie image resolution of said reproduced movie image data in accordance with said added data; and i) display unit, adapted to display said movie image data up converted by said up converting unit.
