The present technology is directed to systems and methods for integrating route and rank information into call detail records. The system receives information relating to a communication that is established between a first communication device and a second communication device. The information includes routing information for the established communication that includes at least a route identifier and a rank identifier. The system records the received route identifier and the rank identifier in a call detail record that is generated for the established communication. The route and rank information may be analyzed to for various purposes including troubleshooting and quality improvement.
Legal claims defining the scope of protection, as filed with the USPTO.
1. A method performed by a gateway for communicating route and rank information for a telephony communication to a CDR unit of an IP telephony system, comprising: receiving a communication setup request from a server of an IP telephony system; extracting route and rank information from the communication setup request; and sending the extracted route and rank information to a CDR unit of an IP telephony system, wherein extracting the rank information comprises extracting an identifier which is indicative of a position of an entry in a row of a routing table that corresponds to the extracted route.
2. The method of claim 1 , wherein said extracting comprises extracting the route and rank information from at least one header field of at least one data packet bearing the communication setup request.
3. The method of claim 1 , wherein extracting the route information comprises extracting a pattern of digits corresponding to at least a portion of a telephone number that corresponds to the destination telephony device.
4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the position of an entry is a position of an IP address of the gateway in the row of the routing table.
5. The method of claim 1 , wherein a route identifier and a rank identifier are extracted from the communication setup request and sent to the CDR unit of the IP telephony system.
6. The method of claim 5 , wherein multiple IP addresses are associated with the route identifier, and wherein each of the multiple IP addresses is associated with a corresponding rank identifier.
7. A gateway that communicates route and rank information for a telephony communication to a CDR unit of an IP telephony system, comprising: means for receiving a communication setup request from a server of an IP telephony system; means for extracting route and rank information from the communication setup request; and means for sending the extracted route and rank information to a CDR unit of an IP telephony system, wherein extracting the rank information comprises extracting an identifier which is indicative of a position of an entry in a row of a routing table that corresponds to the extracted route.
8. The system of claim 7 , wherein a route identifier and a rank identifier are extracted from the communication setup request and sent to the CDR unit of the IP telephony system.
9. The system of claim 8 , wherein multiple IP addresses are associated with the route identifier, and wherein each of the multiple IP addresses is associated with a corresponding rank identifier.
10. A gateway that communicates route and rank information for a telephony communication to a CDR unit of an IP telephony system, comprising: a receiving unit that receives a communication setup request from a server of an IP telephony system; an extraction unit that extracts route and rank information from the communication setup request; and a transmission unit that sends the extracted route and rank information to a CDR unit of an IP telephony system, wherein the extraction unit extracts an identifier which is indicative of a position of an entry in a row of a routing table that corresponds to the extracted route.
11. The system of claim 10 , wherein the extraction unit extracts the route and rank information from at least one header field of at least one data packet bearing the communication setup request.
12. The system of claim 10 , wherein the extraction unit extracts a pattern of digits corresponding to at least a portion of a telephone number that corresponds to a destination telephony device.
13. The system of claim 10 , wherein the position of an entry is a position of an IP address of the gateway in the row of the routing table.
14. The system of claim 10 , wherein a route identifier and a rank identifier are extracted from the communication setup request and sent to the CDR unit of the IP telephony system.
15. The system of claim 14 , wherein multiple IP addresses are associated with the route identifier, and wherein each of the multiple IP addresses is associated with a corresponding rank identifier.
