Technical Abstract

A device is provided for use with extended content data on a first data stream and second content data on a second data stream. The device includes a processing portion, an acquisition portion and a buffer. The acquisition portion is in communication with the processing portion. The acquisition portion can acquire the first data stream, can transition to the second data stream to receive the second content data and can provide the second content data to the processing portion. The buffer can receive the extended content data. The processing portion can instruct the acquisition portion to transition from the first data stream to the second data stream to receive the second content data. The buffer can further provide the extended content data to the processing portion based on the acquisition portion transitioning from the first data stream to the second data stream. The processing portion can further process the extended content data portion as received from the buffer.

1. A device comprising: a processing device to acquire a first data stream comprising first content data and extended content data, and a second data stream comprising second content data; and a buffer to store the extended content data, wherein the processing device is further to: perform a transition operation to transition from the first data stream to the second data stream within a transitioning time period; select insertion content from a plurality of portions of the extended content data based on the transitioning time period and a timing of the transition operation relative to the transitioning time period, wherein to select the insertion content from the plurality of portions of the extended content data, the processing device is further to: determine whether the timing of the transition operation relative to the transitioning time period is sufficient to allow for insertion of at least a first portion of the extended content data between the first content data and the second content data; select the first portion of the extended content data as the insertion content in response to a determination that the timing is sufficient to allow for insertion of the first portion of the extended content data between the first content data and the second content data; and select a second portion of the extended content data as the insertion content in response to a determination that the timing is insufficient to allow for insertion of the first portion of the extended content data between the first content data and the second content data; create an output signal including the first content data, the second content data, and the insertion content selected from the plurality of portions of the extended content data, the insertion content being inserted between the first content data and the second content data; and cause the insertion content to be presented to a user during the transition operation.

2

2. The device of claim 1 , wherein the insertion content has a presentation period that is less than or equal to the transitioning time period.

3

3. The device of claim 2 , wherein each of the first portion of the extended content data and the second portion of the extended content data corresponds to a presentation period that is less than the transitioning time period.

4

4. The device of claim 2 , wherein the transitioning time is less than or equal to two seconds.

5

5. The device of claim 1 , wherein the extended content data comprises a still image.

6

6. The device of claim 1 , wherein a complete play time of the first content data with the insertion content is longer than a complete play time of the first content data without the insertion content.

7

7. A method comprising: acquiring, using a processing device, a first data stream comprising first content data and extended content data; performing a transition operation to transition from the first data stream to a second data stream comprising second content data within a transitioning time period; selecting, using the processing device, insertion content from a plurality of portions of the extended content data based on the transitioning time period and a timing of the transition operation relative to the transitioning time period, wherein selecting the insertion content from the plurality of portions of the extended content data further comprises: determining whether the timing of the transition operation relative to the transitioning time period is sufficient to allow for insertion of at least a first portion of the extended content data between the first content data and the second content data; selecting the first portion of the extended content data as the insertion content in response to a determination that the timing is sufficient to allow for insertion of the first portion of the extended content data between the first content data and the second content data; and selecting a second portion of the extended content data as the insertion content in response to a determination that the timing is insufficient to allow for insertion of the first portion of the extended content data between the first content data and the second content data; creating an output signal including the first content data, the second content data, and the insertion content selected from the plurality of portions of the extended content data, the insertion content being inserted between the first content data and the second content data; and causing the insertion content to be presented to a user during the transition operation.

8

8. The method of claim 7 , wherein the insertion content has a presentation period that is less than or equal to the transitioning time period.

9

9. The method of claim 8 , wherein each of the first portion of the extended content data and the second portion of the extended content data corresponds to a presentation period that is less than the transitioning time period.

10

10. The method of claim 8 , wherein the transitioning time is less than or equal to two seconds.

11

11. The method of claim 7 , wherein the extended content data comprises a still image.

12

12. The method of claim 7 , wherein a complete play time of the first content data with the insertion content is longer than a complete play time of the first content data without the insertion content.

13

13. A non-transitory device-readable medium storing instructions that, when executed by a processing device, cause the processing device to perform operations comprising: acquiring, using the processing device, a first data stream comprising first content data and extended content data; performing a transition operation to transition from the first data stream to a second data stream comprising second content data within a transitioning time period; selecting, using the processing device, insertion content from a plurality of portions of the extended content data based on the transitioning time period and a timing of the transition operation relative to the transitioning time period, wherein selecting the insertion content from the plurality of portions of the extended content data further comprises: determining whether the timing of the transition operation relative to the transitioning time period is sufficient to allow for insertion of at least a first portion of the extended content data between the first content data and the second content data; selecting the first portion of the extended content data as the insertion content in response to a determination that the timing is sufficient to allow for insertion of the first portion of the extended content data between the first content data and the second content data; and selecting a second portion of the extended content data as the insertion content in response to a determination that the timing is insufficient to allow for insertion of the first portion of the extended content data between the first content data and the second content data; creating an output signal including the first content data, the second content data, and the insertion content selected from the plurality of portions of the extended content data, the insertion being inserted between the first content data and the second content data; and causing the insertion content to be presented to a user during the transition operation.

14

14. The non-transitory device-readable medium of claim 13 , wherein the insertion content has a presentation period that is less than or equal to the transitioning time period.

15

15. The non-transitory device-readable medium of claim 13 , wherein each of the first portion of the extended content data and the second portion of the extended content data corresponds to a presentation period that is less than the transitioning time period.

16

16. The non-transitory device-readable medium of claim 13 , wherein the transitioning time is less than or equal to two seconds.

17

17. The non-transitory device-readable medium of claim 13 , wherein the extended content data comprises a still image.

18

18. The non-transitory device-readable medium of claim 13 , wherein a complete play time of the first content data with the insertion content is longer than a complete play time of the first content data without the insertion content.
